The Walking Dead show boss reveals Alpha’s master plan after luring Carol into underground trap
THE Whisperers came out on top in The Walking Dead’s midseason finale, in more ways than one.
After Alpha’s lies about daughter Lydia were exposed, Gamma told Aaron where he could find the herd of walkers used to threaten the allied communities with annihilation.
Upon arriving at the site there was nothing to see though, leaving Daryl questioning if they were being set up, despite Aaron’s protestations Gamma – real name Mary – was telling the truth.
Tensions hit fever pitch when Carol ended up spotting Alpha and decided to give chase.
However, show boss Angela Kang revealed how Alpha was playing puppet master the entire time and her vulnerability was carefully choreographed.
“From Alpha’s side, she was trying to lure them - if you watch the section where Alpha is running, she does almost what I find a slightly comical version of a run. She almost looks like she’s prancing for a couple of steps,” she explained.

“So I sort of feel like she’s playing it. Like, ‘Come on, come on after me.’ It’s interesting – it’s not a badass run.”
Carol and the gang ended up finding themselves trapped in a cave with a subterranean herd, with no obvious path of escape.
Kang confirmed that when the show returns early next year, it will jump straight back into the group’s attempts to find their way home.
As for what comes afterwards, it seems Armageddon is on the horizon.
“At this point now some lines have been crossed, right? The border has been crossed by both side,” she added to Entertainment Weekly.
“There have been these acts of war and so things are now escalating very, very fast. And we kind of get to the big conflict between the Whisperers and our people.”
Elsewhere in the midseason finale, Father Gabriel avenged Siddiq by brutally stabbing Whisperer spy Dante to death.
The Walking Dead will return to FOX and NOW TV in February.
