Game of Thrones teases big announcement with cryptic ‘winter is coming’ tweet – but it majorly backfires with fans
GAME of Thrones fans have proven once again that they hold a grudge.
The Westeros drama ruffled feathers earlier this year with a finale that was branded “oversimplified” and “rushed” by many viewers and critics alike.
While the HBO fantasy epic has attempted to shrug off the complaints since then with the announcement of Targaryen spin-off series House of the Dragon, its latest social media post set tongues wagging for all the wrong reasons.
The drama’s official Twitter account cryptically wrote: “Winter is coming,” quoting the late Stark patriarch Ned.
While the phrase is undoubtedly iconic, it failed to whet fans’ appetites, who instead took the opportunity to give show bosses a piece of their mind.
“Winter is disappointing… just like season 8,” one brutally sniped.

A second agreed: “Unless it’s a season 8 remake – delete your account.”
A third bluntly wrote: “Nobody wants you mate, just go away.”
“Thanks for reminding me how bad season 8 was,” a fourth snapped.
Another, clearly revelling in denial, joked: “Too bad Game of Thrones ended at season 6, we will never know what Daenerys will do after crossing the narrow sea.”
Unsurprisingly, the official account opted not to respond to any of the complaints, nor did it go into any detail about a potential announcement.
The furore comes after Tommen Baratheon actor Dean-Charles Chapman, urged show bosses to release the alternative ending for Game of Thrones.
He claimed it would “mend fans’ hearts” amid the widespread backlash.
The final season of Game of Thrones and the full series box set is available on DVD and Blu-ray from 2nd December.
