Game of Thrones’ Tommen Baratheon actor urges show bosses to release alternative ending to ‘mend fans’ hearts’

Game of Thrones Tommen

THE Game of Thrones cast seem just as keen for an alternative ending to the Westeros drama as fans.

The HBO epic wrapped earlier this year to mixed reviews, with many branding the last few episodes “rushed” and “oversimplified”.

In particular, many took issue with the decline into bloodlust of Daenerys Targaryen, the underwhelming death of Cersei Lannister and the appointment of Bran Stark as king.

Now Dean-Charles Chapman, who played Cersei’s youngest son Tommen Baratheon, has spoken of the potentially healing effects of releasing the unseen footage.

“Well, we shot an alternative ending - that was mostly for fun but I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you about that,” he told Metro.co.uk.

When asked by TMZ if it should be made available to the public, he added: “Yeah, why not… mend the fans’ hearts, exactly. I’ll be watching.

“I know they’re doing spin-offs as well.”

Fans will remember that Tommen tragically took his own life after witnessing the Great Sept of Baelor explode at the hands of his dastardly mother.

With his wife Margaery Tyrell killed in the blast and his faith in tatters, the young ruler threw himself over the balcony of the Red Keep.

Dean-Charles’ comments come after co-star Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund, opened up about concerns he “betrayed fans” with his performance.

He admitted that his portrayal of the statuesque redhead wasn’t in keeping with A Song of Ice & Fire author George RR Martin’s original vision.

“In the novels, he’s older… and he says ‘HA!’ all the time,” he said at a BFI retrospective screening.

“I felt like I was betraying the fans, because I didn’t say ‘HA!’ – I always tried to put it in, and [was always] suggesting it, and they were like, ‘We’ll just keep that out…’”

However, he noted that Tormund’s character development was substantial and offered up a great balance of ferocity and comedy.

“He started off [on the show] as an antagonist, as a guy who was a threat, an enemy to the realm, and he became part of Team Jon Snow, and suddenly fell in love [with Brienne]… I don’t think that was George RR Martin at all!” Kristofer continued.

“That’s the beauty of a TV show – that they [the writers] can use the best things they find and create something new.”

The final season of Game of Thrones and the full series box set is available on DVD and Blu-ray from 2nd December
