VIEWERS were outraged during last night's episode of The Apprentice when the contestants revealed they didn't know when World War II began.
Despite the 1939-1945 war being taught in primary schools and being a vital part of British history, it seems like none of Lord Sugar's potential business partners were listening in class.
The latest episode of the BBC series saw the contestants embarking on the show's famous scavenger hunt task in Oxford and Cambridge, where they must track down a list of nine items for the lowest price.
One such item was a book in the Alice in Wonderland series which was printed before World War II, which led to several of the candidates asking questions about when the war actually started.
Only controversial contestant Lottie Lion on Team Unison knew the correct dates, telling her group: "Just ensure that it is before 1939."
But Team Empower were clueless.
"Does anyone know, just so we can be really clear, what date the second world war started so we can make sure we are pre that?" asked 29 year-old Irish beauty brand owner Pamela Laird.
Digital Marketing Manager Lewis Ellis then chipped in: "I think it's 1945 it ended. Is that when it started or ended?"
His question was met with silence from the others in his group while Event manager Riyonn Farsad mumbled: "Well, that's a great start."
Pamela then added: "Just think of our parents age. Where they alive? What year were they born?"
"Go more grandparents," advised Riyonn as mentor Karren Brady bit her lip in the background.
"How long did it go on for?" Pamela asked.
"Wasn't it four years?" Riyonn incorrectly guessed.
And while the contestants then moved on to another item on the list, viewers were up in arms at the gaping hole in their basic knowledge.
One tweeted: "Cannot believe these muppets don't know the start of World War II #Apprentice."
A second vented: "How the f**k do these clowns on the apprentice not know the dates of World War II?"
A third wrote: "Good luck to @Lord_Sugar. He’s certainly going to need it as his Apprentice candidates are proving that they are all as thick as s**t. It’s hard to believe that these egotistical t**ts didn’t know when World War II started and what a mortar board was. Who selects these morons!"
A fourth added: "The Apprentice is more horrific than most horror films lol. They've missed the point about chosing PM and don't know when World War II was!?!?!"
A fifth posted: "Jesus. They don’t even know when World War II Sarted?!?! I REALLY hope that comes back to bite them on the arse... #Apprentice #TheApprentice."
And a sixth said: "Sad state of affairs. Surely one of them would know. Have people really started forgetting?"

Ultimately, Team Unision won the task, collecting eight of the items on the list for less money.
Team Empower, on the other hand, collected seven and spent more, so were the loosing team.
Eventually it was Riyonn who was fired after project manager Jemelin brought him and Ryan-Mark back into the boardroom.
