The pair lost out to Mike Bushell and Katya Jones in the dance off - causing outrage among viewers, with some even labelling it a fix.

Speaking to Rylan Clarke-Neal, she said: "I'm gutted. I kind of thought - hoped - that we had a couple of weeks left. I struggled with the Cha Cha, it was evil!"

Then as Rylan tried to play a clip of their dance, Catherine exclaimed: "Let's not... no!"

However, the pair ended up gushing over their experience with each other - and said they will be friends for life.

She said about her partner Johannes: "I feel like I’ve just been through a divorce and I’ve got custody of JoJo. I feel like such a winner to have this guy.

"I feel so blessed to be partnered with that guy. And friendship for life. It really is. He’s just phenomenal, I’m so grateful."

She added: "Not only is he a phenomenal dancer but one of the best people I’ve ever met inside and out. You’re such a good person and you have so much to give.

"And I feel truly blessed to have danced with you."

Johannes gushed over Catherine as well, saying: "I get more from her every day, she encourages me, like I say in the final stages, I became the student and she became the teacher.

"I’ll forever be grateful for this moment. I’m glad that our paths crossed. Forever and always my friend."

Fans were furious after Catherine was eliminated in favour of Mike Bushell - with some people even calling it a fix.

One irate observer wrote in an email to The Sun Online: "Strictly judging [is] bent as a halfpenny watch.

"The Beeb has to get Bushell to Blackpool otherwise they have a daily void to fill at Breakfast time. So the head judge should be hanging her head in shame today for being complicit in this Blackpool quest."

Other viewers took to Twitter to complain about the result.

One viewer said: "Typical #Strictly2019 #Strictly keep the BBC person whose awful & get rid of the ITV person whose excellent #scd bias"

A second added: "That's ball it's a fix all because Mike works for the BBC that's the only reason he won."

A third added: "Not the biggest strictly observer but to save Mike who is a full time BBC employee over a girl Catherine who made her name on itv show, did they get told who to save."

Craig Revel Horwood - who admitted on The Jonathan Ross Show that he wanted to see Mike get to Blackpool - saved Mike and his partner Katya Jones, while Motsi Mabuse and Bruno Tonioli saved Catherine and her partner Johannes Radebe.

That left Shirley with the final say.

She explained: "Well, I thought both couples really step it up a notch and this is always the most difficult decision for me, but based on a good focus, difficult content, with some really beautiful footwork in there with stronger technical skills for me, cleaner and polished. I’m going to save Mike and Katya.”
