Terrifying first look at the new Dracula TV series reveals satanic nuns and plenty of gore
HORROR fans have been given the first terrifying look at the new Dracula TV series - complete with satanic nuns and plenty of gore.
The series - which has been written by the team behind hit series Sherlock - sees Danish actor Claes Bang play the vampire.
The short but creepy trailer gave glimpses of a group of satanic nurses pulling out knives, a creepy castle and bloodied hands.
A woman lets out a blood-curdling scream at one point before Dracula is finally seen grabbing a terrified man by the throat and telling him: "Try and stay calm...you're doing very well."
A series of pictures have also been released for the series, which will air in the UK on the BBC and internationally on Netflix.
The first picture is of actor John Heffernan, who plays Jonathan Harker, one of the main protagonists from Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel.
Jonathan is seen standing in the snow looking up at something off camera with a suitcase beside him and a carriage in the distance.
Meanwhile a second shot shows Sister Agatha - played by Dolly Wells - and Mother Superior (Joanna Scanlan) stood behind some church gates.
The final picture to be released shows Dracula himself, wearing a sharply tailored suit, his fangs nowhere to be seen.
Claes previously said of landing the iconic role: "I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Dracula, especially when the script is in the hands of the incredible talents of Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and the team responsible for Sherlock.
“I’m so excited that I get to dig in to this iconic and super-interesting character. Yes he’s evil, but there’s also so much more to him, he’s charismatic, intelligent, witty and sexy.
";I realise that there’s a lot to live up to with all the amazing people that have played him over the years, but I feel so privileged, to be taking on this incredible character.”
The series is created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, who also worked on Sherlock which stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
A release date is yet to be confirmed for the series.
