Danny Dyer vows to beat Ant and Dec to become the King of Saturday night TV with new show The Wall
DANNY Dyer has set his sight on stealing Ant and Dec's crown to become the King of Saturday night TV.
The EastEnders actor's new BBC gameshow The Wall will go head to head with the X Factor: Celebrity in the ratings war and Danny is relishing establishing himself as a host.
Danny, 42, appeared on The One Show to promote the series and host Patrick Kielty said to him: "We love that you’re bringing a bit of danger to Saturday night. Ant and Dec are going to be worried.”
The Mick Carter actor replied: “I think they’ve had a good run, but there’s a new geezer in town.”
The lovable duo have won a record 18 Best Presenter gongs at the National TV Awards.
Earlier this year The Sun revealed BBC bosses were hoping Danny will deliver them a hit after a string of flops.
The star's role as host of the British version of US game show The Wall is part of his £1million BBC golden handcuffs deal.
Danny, who has taken part in a history series as well as Have I Got News for You, filmed the series in Poland.
A telly source said at the time: “In the eyes of bosses Danny can do no wrong and they think it could give them a Saturday night hit outside of Strictly. Danny’s banter and humour is why the public like him and they’re hoping to capitalise on that. If it all lines up well they want it on TV later this year.
"It’s still early days but if it works and commissioners like it then there’s no reason why it couldn’t be a hit."
In the US version contestants drop balls into a grid and can win up to £9million.
BBC flops include choir show Pitch Battle and musical series Let It Shine.
Danny landed a gong for his role as Mick Carter at the National Television Awards at the beginning of the year.
Danny Dyer’s Right Royal Family series also did well in the ratings.
