BURNING BORDERS

The Walking Dead director reveals Alpha’s revenge plans after forest fire ignites bloody turf war

THE Walking Dead’s season 10 premiere has set the stage for all-out war.

The Whisperers, known for their stealth thanks to their masks made from the faces of walkers, have already committed their fair share of atrocities in the name of territory.

In season 8 they brutally decapitated members of Alexandria and The Kingdom and mounted their heads on spikes as a grim reminder of what they would do to anyone who stepped on their turf.

Now old wounds are set to reopen, director Greg Nicotero has confirmed, as a forest fire ravages the border and forces an act of trespassing.

"I think Alpha was pretty clear in her message. The irony is through the course of the entire episode, everybody is very, very aware of the borders,” he said.

"I love the scene between Ross and Danai, where Ross sees the walkers on the other side of the border and he gallops his horse towards them and kills them because he wants to make sure that they're not being watched,” he went on.

"And Michonne's response is like, 'Are you crazy? What are you doing? We can't go up against them. We need to be smart about this.’

"But he can't, he's just had too much emotion. So you really get the sense that our people are begrudgingly going to follow the borders and the rules."

Alas, the group are unable to uphold their wariness as their entire community is threatened by a deadly blaze.

Unfortunately, Alpha isn’t the type to make exceptions, even when the case is life or death.

As such, viewers can expect to see her unleash a punishment of fatal proportions, following her earlier threats to leads hordes of the undead right to Alexandria’s doorstep.

"In this last instance, their desire and their need to cross the border are two different things,” Nicotero continued.

"There's a forest fire raging, they had to cross the border, otherwise, the forest fire would have wiped out one of their communities. But Alpha doesn't care because Alpha doesn't live by the rules of like, 'Oh well wouldn’t that be sad if your community got wiped out?'

"Because she doesn't live by those rules. So all Alpha knows is they broke the rules. She doesn't care why, it doesn’t matter to her."

Still, Alpha will have to deal with some formidable opponents.

Among them is Carol, the adopted mother of Henry, who she brutally beheaded.

Something tells us only one of these femme fatales will emerge from the clash alive.

The Walking Dead airs Mondays on FOX at 9pm.
