THE Walking Dead has officially welcomed Lauren Cohan’s character Maggie Rhee back into the zombie apocalypse.
The AMC apocalyptic drama returns tonight for its tenth season.
While the plot lines surrounding the war against the whisperers have been heavily teased, producers dropped a bombshell at New York Comic Con when they announced that Maggie would be making a comeback.
The former leader of Hilltop last appeared on the show in season 9 episode What Comes After, consoling Michonne (Danai Gurira) after Rick (Andrew Lincoln) sacrificed himself by blowing up a bridge swamped with walkers.
The following season took place after a six-year time jump, and it was subsequently revealed that Maggie and her son Hershel Jr had moved to Georgie’s community to learn about setting up sustainable agriculture and energy.
Show runner Angela Kang announced the news at Comic Con as actress Cohan popped up from behind a hockey mask, sending crowds wild.

Her hiatus came so she could take the lead role in ABC show Whiskey Cavalier, but the drama was cancelled after just one season back in May.
Kang also confirmed that The Walking Dead had been renewed for an 11th season, which comes as no surprise after AMC CEO Josh Sapan teased that there was still plenty of material to work with, despite the original Robert Kirkman comics coming to an end.
Speaking at the Goldman Sachs’ Communacopia Conference, he said: "We have an awful lot of life left in The Walking Dead.
"I mean decades and decades of life left."
Elsewhere,The Walking Dead’s 2020 spin-off received its first trailer, documenting the journey of a group of teens born after the apocalypse from a safe haven to the zombie wasteland.
The Walking Dead airs at 9pm every Monday on FOX and is available to stream on NOW TV.
