Ed Sheeran donates old slippers to charity shop – and they could fetch £200

POP STAR Ed Sheeran has donated his tattered old slippers to be sold at a charity shop — and they could make £200.

The star handed over the ‘grandad’ slippers with 17 others pairs of his old size 10 shoes, including a Versace pair with the heel of one shoe falling off.

As well as the trendy Vivienne Tam slippers, Ed has gifted a dark-coloured pair which also “look like something a grandfather would wear”.

Other makes of the songwriter's shoes include Nike, Dolce & Gabanna, Converse and Air Jordan.

There are also Timberland walking shoes, a pair of Quicksilver flip flops and an unworn pair of Patrick Ewing baseball boots with the label still attached.

An aide to the star popped the cast-offs into St Elizabeth Hospice shop in Framlingham, Suffolk, where Ed grew-up and still lives close to with his wife Cherry Seaborn.

Staff hope to make at least £100 for each pair of shoes despite many being in poor condition.

Shop manager Rachail Pollard said: "I can't imagine the slippers would be worth more than a few pence normally - but they could be priced £200 as they are from Ed."

She added: “Fans simply cannot get enough of Ed’s cast off bits and pieces.

“He has donated us a couple of pairs of his shoes in the past – but never as many as this in one go.

“If it had been anyone else, I think the vast majority of these shoes would have to be thrown out because they are so well worn.

“But it is a strong selling point that many of them have been worn by Ed for a long time. It makes them a more authentic item for fans.

“People will be able to literally follow in Ed’s footsteps by having a pair of his shoes to walk around in."

She hopes to sell some of the shoes in the shop and to send the rest to be auctioned along with other items of Sheeran’s clothing and memorabilia.

A catalogue is currently being drawn up for auction to be held on December 7 by Bishop & Miller in Stowmarket, Suffolk.

All proceeds will go to the Ipswich-based hospice and its new initiative Zest which focuses on care and support for young adults.

The auction will feature many of the 300 pieces of clothing and other items that Sheeran donated to the hospice in August.

It will include basketball, football and ice hockey shirts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, hoodies, trainers and jeans, a signed Hoax surfboard, a basketball, CDs, a cuddly toy cat and a toy pig.

Many of the shirts were given to Sheeran on his recent world tour and some are emblazoned with his name while one is signed by David Beckham.

Last year, an auction of another 300 items donated by the star raised £53,000 for the hospice.

The lots included Sheeran’s custom-made guitar which sold for £10,200, his harmonica priced at £400 and a giant Lego model of his head which fetched £850.
