Kate Wright and Rio Ferdinand’s wedding ‘ruined’ luxury holiday after ‘raucous chavs ran wild’, furious holidaymakers claim
THEY promised one of the most glamorous celebrity weddings of the year at a stunning five-star resort – but not everyone was blown away by Rio Ferdinand and Kate Wright’s wedding.
Guests at the luxury D Maris Bay hotel in Turkey told The Sun they have demanded refunds after claiming they were locked out of swimming pools, beaches and even main areas of the hotel because of the three-day celebrations.
Rio, 40, and Kate, 28, booked out large swathes of the resort but not the whole hotel, where rooms can go for up to £4000 a night.
While their celebrations went off without a hitch, a handful of angry customers confronted the hotel manager and demanded an apology after claiming their holidays had been “ruined”.
One holidaymaker, who asked not to be named as they’re still holidaying at the resort, told The Sun: “It’s ridiculous – it feels like my family’s holiday has been ruined by their wedding.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for them both and it was quite fun to know there was a celebrity wedding happening at the start.
“But we ended up being shut out of one of the pools because of their party – and the best beach was out of bounds for a whole day.
“It’s not fair as my family and I have paid a huge amount of money.
“I confronted the manager and was told there was nothing they could do, as we’re all paying guests.
“But once a group of us started complaining they said they would organise refunds.”
As well as claiming they were unable to access facilities, guests claimed loud music played late into the night and disturbed their sleep.
Another guest, speaking to The Sun anonymously from the airport, claimed: “All you could hear for a couple of days was blaring loud music and people screaming and whooping.
“It was like there were chavs running wild around the resort. It wasn’t what we expected from a high class hotel. Raucous and rowdy.
“They had some awful comperes on and DJ sets, it’s all we could hear. Even when we shut the balcony doors – it was a racket.”
Despite the upset caused to some guests, Kate and Rio’s wedding went off without a glitch for them and their guests.
Sharing their story with OK! Magazine, ex Manchester United ace Rio admitted he cried throughout the day.
He said: “It was so emotional. There was no going back on the emotion, that's why I kept my shades on.
And Kate, who looked stunning in a bespoke bridal gown, said the day was a dream come true.
She said: “Seeing Rio at the altar made me feel so happy, I couldn't wait to get to him.
“Especially as he was so emotional, I couldn't wait to get to him.
“It was everything that I imagined it to be, but I didn't cry at that moment. I cried all my tears in the morning.”
