Who is Great British Menu 2021 finalist Roberta Hall-McCarron?
SCOTTISH chef Roberta Hall-McCarron is battling to become Great British Menu’s champion of champions after winning the fish crown.
Here’s what we know about the talented chef.
Who is Great British Menu 2021 finalist Roberta Hall-McCarron?
Roberta is a chef from Edinburgh in Scotland.
She began her culinary career working behind the scenes in kitchens and has gone on to become a star in her native Scotland.
Roberta went on to work for Tom Kitchen at his restaurant in Edinburgh before moving on to Dominic Jack’s Castle Terrace, also in the Scottish capital.
She has since set up her own place in Edinburgh.
Roberta’s style, influenced by French techniques, is traditionally Scottish and it’s helped her achieve considerable success on GBM.
She won her regional heat in 2020, defeating Amy Elles, Ross Bryans and Gordon Jones to become Scotland’s champion.
But Roberta failed to progress further after Niall Keating won the fish course, later becoming the champion of champions.
Her cooking style for this year’s series - which aims to celebrate British innovation and invention - is inspired by the Edinburgh Seven, the first women matriculated at a British university.
And it's helped her win the fish crown.
Victory in Great British Menu’s champion of champions finale would boost her career and get dozens of Scots visiting her Edinburgh restaurant.
When did she open The Little Chartroom?
Roberta opened in 2018, running the restaurant with her husband.
As he takes care of the customers, she perfects the delicious recipes that make her restaurant one of the finest establishments in the city.
The Little Chartroom has a five-star rating on and is currently offering a fabulous three-course takeaway meal.
For £65, two people can enjoy a Pea soup, nori and buttermilk starter followed by a main course of lamb rump, Vadouvan butter, curried pastie, turnip tops and lime pickle.
The strawberry Eton Mess dessert can be washed down with a bottle of Syrah wine, produced in France’s Languedoc region.
The Little Chartroom specialises in vino, with bottles priced between £21 and £120.
And they offer Sunday lunch, with their tasty speciality - the pork T-bone, apple & cider sauce, black pudding puree, confit potatoes, bacon jam and veg - costing £30.
