When was the Gossip Girl reboot cancelled?
On Thursday, January 19, 2023, showrunner Joshua Safran , in part: "So here's the goss: it is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce GOSSIP GIRL will not be continuing on HBO Max."
He continued by saying he and the EPs "will forever be grateful" for "the network and studio for their faith and support; the writers for their devious brains and dexterous talent; the superstar cast for being the greatest of collaborators and friends; and the crew for their hard work, dedication, and love for the project."
Safran noted that this may not be the end of the road, saying: "We are currently looking for another home, but in this climate, that might prove an uphill battle, and so if this is the end, at least we went out on the highest of highs."
Seven years after the original series last aired, Gossip Girl returned with a ten-episode reboot.
The reboot was originally due to become available on HBO Max in the autumn of 2020 but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the reboot series premiered on Thursday, July 8, exclusively on HBO Max.

Blake Lively, who played Serena van der Woodsen in the original series, spoke about not returning for the reboot, telling : "Would I do seven years of the show? No, because it's hard work and I've got my babies, and I don't want to be away from them that much.
"But I've just learned in life you never say never."
Yet, Penn Badgley did not discount appearing in the reboot altogether and told "I would love to contribute in a meaningful way to it and I guess it would just depend on a lot of things,'" Badgley explained.
"It would depend on how and why he's there," he continued, "and I don't know... like, is it even... yeah, I don't know."
Original cast member Kristen Bell returned for the reboot to reprise her role as the iconic voice of Gossip Girl.
She continued to narrate the series like the original.
What was the reboot about?
The plot took place in New York nine years after the original blogger’s website went dark.
According to Deadline, the synopsis stated: "Nine years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl.
"The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years."
The episodes continued to pull from both the novels and The CW series.
The show also drew on darker and more adult content by including more intense sex scenes than its predecessor.
Despite having the same narrator, the reboot was from an entirely different perspective.
