Who is David Jason?

Sir David Jason is a British TV actor, most known for his comedy shows and involvement in the detective drama, A Touch of Frost.

He was born in Edmonton, Middlesex in 1940, with a twin brother, who was sadly stillborn.

His full, real name is David John White.

The star has been given a series of accolades in recognition for his work in acting and comedy - being given and OBE in 1993, before being knighted in 2005.

The actor is perhaps best known for his role as Derek "Del Boy" Trotter in the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

Who is David Jason married to?

David has been married to wife Gill Hinchcliffe since 2005.

The happy couple met on the set of A Touch Of Frost.

He was previously in a long-term relationship with Myfanwy Talog, remaining together from 1977 until her death in 1995, however, they never married.

How many children does Sir David Jason have?

Sir David has two daughters, from two different relationships.

The actor became a father at the age of 61 when he and Gill welcomed a daughter called Sophie Mae in February 2001.

It was then revealed in 2023 that he had another daughter called Abi Harris, who was born in 1970.

The father and daughter only found out they were related in 2022.

Where is Sir David Jason now?

In August 2023, Sir David announced that he was forced to pull out of an Only Fools and Horses event, as he was having surgery

He issued a statement that said: "I am so very sorry for the disappointment and all the inconvenience it may cause but we are having to change the date of the forthcoming Only Fools and Horses Convention.

"Unfortunately I have just been advised I need a new bionic body part fitted. I won’t tell you which part it is, or you will all want one!

"And don’t worry it’s not being supplied by Monkey Harris, it’ll be the pukka gear."

However, Sir David thrilled fans when he arrived at the rescheduled event in January 2024, looking fit and well.

The same month, he returned to TV with new show David & Jay's Touring Toolshed.

What TV shows has Sir David Jason been in?

Only Fools and Horses

Only Fools and Horses was a sitcom based in Peckham while ran from 1981 to 1996 - with specials in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

It followed the lives of a wheeler dealer family - The Trotters - with Del Boy (Sir David) having delusions of grandeur as he tried to become a millionaire.

Nicholas Lyndhurst played his brother, Rodney, with Buster Merryfield playing Uncle Albert, and Lennard Pearce playing their granddad.

They lived in a council flat and would frequently try dodgy dealings in their quest to make it to the big time.

Open All Hours

Starring Ronnie Barker, Open All Hours was a corner shop based sitcom taking place in Doncaster.

The much-loved show ran from 1973 to 1985.

David played Granville, the put-upon nephew of Ronnie's character, Albert Cartwright.

A Touch of Frost

Taking on a more gritty role, David plays Detective Inspector Frost - a no-nonsense old-school cop based in the fictional Denton CID.

The detective serial drama sees Frost alongside his cohorts working to discover the culprits of a series of crimes.

It ran from 1992 before eventually ending in 2010.

Darling Buds of May

One of David's much-loved characters has to be Pop Larkin from Darling Buds of May.

The show ran in the early 90s, and revolved around a Kentish family living on a farm.

A bit like Del Boy, Pop was a bit of a wheeler dealer.

The Darling Buds of May most notably launched the career of Catherine Zeta-Jones, who became a Hollywood star.

Still Open All Hours

Still Open Hours kicked off in 2013 and came to an end in 2020.

It followed the story of Granville who inherited the Arkwright's corner shop from his uncle.

The show is a sequel to Open All Hours which ran from 1973 to 1985.

Touring Toolshed

In January 2024, Sir David took up a new role presenting as a host with his new best friend Jay Blades from BBC's The Repair Shop.

The heartwarming series sees them visit various air shows, steam rallies, county fairs and vintage festivals around the UK.

Together they meet some of the UK's most talented crafters, makers and tinkerers, as well as those who could use some help along the way.

It is airing every Monday night at 6.30pm on BBC Two until April 2024.
