Who is ITV newsreader Julie Etchingham?

JULIE Etchingham is a familiar face on the box, thanks to her long career as a new anchor.

In May 2023 she will be hosting ITV's news coverage of King Charles' coronation.

Who is Julie Etchingham?

Julie was born on August 21, 1969 in Leicester to her teacher parents and was raised as a Roman Catholic.

She went to local schools in the city before becoming the first girl at her school to land a place at Cambridge to study English.

Following university, Julie joined the BBC's graduate programme and worked at BBC Midlands before moving to London, where she became a well-known face on kids show Newsround.

After a long stint at the corporation, she moved to Sky News in 2002 and became one of the main news anchors on the channel.

But when ITV announced they were to bring back News at Ten, she was poached by the channel to host the programme alongside Sir Trevor McDonald.

Julie has been married to TV producer Nick Gardner for 20 years and the pair have two sons together.

What has Julie Etchingham hosted?

Journalist and presenter Julie has hosted a number of shows over her two decades in broadcasting.

Some of the more notable headlines she has covered include interviewing the then Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari and anchoring the coverage of Prince William's wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011 with Philip Schofield.

Julie also co-presented the coverage of Prince Philip's funeral in 2021 and the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

ITV News at 10

Since 2008, Julie has presented the ITV News at 10.

She is the current newscaster on the evening news broadcast.

The show airs nightly with a rundown of all the day's news.

Tonight

Between 2010 and 2022, Julie presented the weekly politics show called Tonight on ITV.

She stepped down as presenter in February 2022 but will continue reporting roles.

Julie interviewed each party leader in the run up to the general election in 2017 - this birthed the Theresa May fields of wheat meme.

The US presidential election - 2020

In 2020, Julie reported from West Palm Beach, Florida, bringing all the latest updates on the US presidential election.

She also shared live updates on her .

Julie published a named "Why Florida could give us an early steer tonight" at the same time.

The Tory leadership debate - 2019

The debate was held live on ITV at 8pm on Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

Julie moderated the debate on the questions between the two candidates.

The Leaders' Debate - 2017

On May 18, 2017, the ITV broadcast a Leaders' Debate ahead of the general election.

Julie chaired the event, keeping the party leaders in check and making sure the debate ran smoothly.

She hosted similar events during election campaigns in 2015 and 2016 and was praised for not trying to "hog the limelight."
