But it was the Chesney Brown actor that came out on top after she impressed judges and viewers with her performances.

Stephen Mulhern and Holly Willoughby then announced the results from the public vote.

Holly revealed: "The winner of Dancing On Ice 2025 is Sam and Molly," leaving the actor stunned.

But Sam's win means he beat Michaela from becoming the first female winner in over 12 years since Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle lifted the trophy in 2013.

Anton narrowly missed out making it to the final two.

While Sam and Michaela went head-to-head as they danced the classic Boléro, in a last bid to secure votes.

Earlier in the episode, Anton pulled it out the bag with tens across the board for his first dance, while Sam also scored the same for his Pink Panther routine.

Michaela also stunned the judges with her routine, scoring a total of 40 too.

But fans were hoping TV presenter Michaela would make history as the oldest winner and first female champ in over a decade.

Some viewers were not impressed and took to social media to rant.

Watch the moment Torvill and Dean swerve Dancing On Ice axing question & insist they'll NEVER skate on show after final

One wrote: "WTAF did i just watch?Sam who can't skate to save his life winning over Michaela, a very talented and natural skater. Another man wins on this abysmal show. An ITV employee winning an ITV show. Rigged much? I think so."

A second posted: "Michaela should of won she was amazing, seems like people only vote for their favourite celebrity and just because Sam is in coronation street he won."

A third said: "Michaela should've won but I preferred Sam's bolero tbh so I'm not gonna cause too much of a fuss. 12 years of no female winner is ridiculous though. Let's all pretend she won like we did Peri when Joe swash won..."

This viewer fumed: "Awful, truly awful, Sam, never lifted his partner, held her by himself, no tricks apart from a double foot landing jump, just skates about, nothing compared to other contestants or previous series winners. Fixed I'm afraid to say and usual I don't care."

But not all fans agreed and this person wrote: "Yessss Sam you won it so proud of you voted for you since the start."

A second echoed: "I have to say Sam’s bolero was the best by a country mile."

Earlier on in the night, Sam admitted he hasn't always been the most confident and taking part on the ITV show was a chance to not hide behind a character.

In a touching VT, Sam reflected on his journey and said: "I remember being so nervous and it was funny because of this whole thing of doing this journey as Sam not Chesney.

"I stepped on the ice and the first thing that came out of Chris' mouth was 'alright Chesney'."

He added: "All these weeks and hard work, I've achieved something as Sam. Sometimes confidence hasn't always been my strong point.

"So when you get given a character, you can kind of mask that. As the weeks go on, I've found confidence in myself.

"If you just push yourself and go for something, you never know what you can achieve.

Torvill and Dean choreographed their final dance which had a special Pink Panther theme.

The soap star has blossomed since the first show and left the audience tickled pink.

It's another full house from the judges for 'Sam the skater man'.

Oti branded the dance "so smooth".

FINAL FEAR

On Sunday it was revealed that the current series of the skating competition ‘could be its last’ amid struggling ratings.

The show has been on our screens since 2006 and had a break in 2014.

It returned four years later with the legendary Hayne Torvill and Christopher Dean swapping their roles to become mentors instead of judges.

A source has now revealed that this could be the last year of Dancing On Ice, after its lowest ever ratings.
