CORONATION Street star Katy Cavanagh has revealed Julie Carp is keeping a secret from her family - ahead of making a shock Weatherfield comeback.
Katy is returning to the ITV soap for show legend Eileen Grimshaw's exit storyline.
The character left Weatherfield in 2015 after her relationship with Dev Alahan ran its course.
Ahead of her on-screen comeback, Katy addressed what viewers can expect from Julie's return.
She shared: "They will see the same old fun loving Julie wearing her rose tinted spectacles but it quickly becomes clear that she is keeping a secret from her family and friends and not is all it seems."
Katy's shock return as Julie was first announced last month.
It came as Sue Cleaver announced she was bowing out as Eileen - Julie's half-sister - after playing the role for over two decades.
Sue exclusively told The Sun on Sunday: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street.
“The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”
The Sun revealed Julie will be back for a few months after pausing her Hollywood career to give Eileen the best send-off.
Katy remarked at the time: “It is exciting to dust off Julie’s quirky wardrobe again and an absolute joy to step back onto the cobbles. Julie is so much fun, I’ve missed her.”
Producer Kate Brooks said in a statement: "We're delighted to have the inimitable Julie Carp back on the Cobbles.
"As the ever lovable Julie breezes back into the lives of the Grimshaws, not everything is quite as it seems, and Julie's secret sets off a chain of events that has huge ramifications for Eileen.
"Katy has slipped back into Julie's shoes with such ease that it's like she's never been away, and we can't wait for the audience to watch Julie's story unfold; a story full of love, laughter and tears."
Meanwhile, spoilers for upcoming scenes have revealed the circumstances behind Julie's return.
Next week, Debbie hands out flyers to Todd and Billy for a tea dance for singles at the hotel.
ITV bosses are locked in a battle to save the cash-strapped soap.
This means that a number of stars have either been axed from or have abandoned the long-running serial drama.
Colson Smith - Craig Tinker
The character of Craig Tinker has been axed by bosses after 14 years. After he was told of the news in Autumn 2024, Colson Smith confirmed that would be written out of the show with scenes to air later this year. Craig's on-screen mum, Beth Tinker, also left the show in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out from the role.
Sue Cleaver - Eileen Grimshaw
After 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw, former I'm A Celebrity campmate Sue Cleaver will quit the show. The Sun on Sunday reported in January that she's already begun to film her exit scenes. However the character will not be killed off in case Sue opts to make a return in the future.
Luca Toolan - Mason Radcliffe
Bosses decided to axe the teenage character after just 16 months after he first joined the show. Recent scenes saw Mason stabbed by his criminal brothers after his pal Dylan brought a knife in an attempt to defend him.
Sue Devaney - Debbie Webster
In November 2024, we revealed that Debbie Webster is set to be killed off after 40 years on the cobbles. The character will die as part of a heartbreaking long-running dementia storyline.
Charlotte Jordan - Daisy Midgeley
The actress became the fifth star to leave Coronation Street in just one month. We revealed that she will bow out of the ITV soap later this year after four years on-screen. Charlotte told sources that she's hungry to see what other opportunities await.
Shelley King - Yasmeen Metcalfe
The actress has played Yasmeen Metcalfe on the cobbles for the past 11 years and we revealed in January that she finished filming her final scenes. This follows the departure of her on-screen partner Stu Carpenter.
