RYLAN CLARK is on a mission to get clued-up on all things history, as I can reveal he’s going to be digging into the past again.
This time he won’t be venturing too far as his new show will be in his home county of Essex.
He is following in the footsteps of Suranne Jones, who investigated the most infamous witch trials for Channel 4 last summer, with his own show on sorceresses on Sky History.
I’ve previously revealed that Rylan, who recently returned from his BBC Grand Tour series around Italy with art and history buff Rob Rinder, was jetting off to India for more cultural education.
But it appears that’s not enough for the TV presenter, who is already working on the new show with Louis Theroux’s production company, Mindhouse.
Rylan has begun filming alongside TV historian Professor Alice Roberts at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on London’s South Bank this week.
The new series, entitled The Witches Of Essex, will see Rylan transported back to 1542, when Henry VIII passed the first law against witches.
The Witchcraft Act led to thousands of women being persecuted for sorcery, with many being burned at the stake.
In Essex alone, around 1,000 people were accused of witchcraft, before the law was repealed in the mid-18th century.
An insider said: “Rylan has been busy learning about art and history over on the BBC, but now — he’s diving in closer to home.
“The three-parter will see Rylan investigate the epicentre of the persecution of witches, and the thousands of women who met their deaths thanks to laws against magic.
“He’ll learn about the three most notorious witch trials, all of which were held in Essex, and the consequences it had on the people of his home county.”
Unlikely duo Alice and Rylan teased the series on social media, smiling for a photo on the stage of The Globe as they told fans they were “cooking up some magic”.
The series is expected to air on Sky History later this year.
LOUIS THEROUX has added the West Bank to the list of volatile locations he has travelled to for his documentaries.
He heads there to meet the growing community of Israeli settlers based there.
The settlements are illegal under international law but protected by the police, army and Israeli government.
They have grown since war broke out after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 Israelis.
Louis also meets settlers who plan to move into Gaza, where the conflict saw at least 47,000 Palestinians killed.
Louis said: “In 2010, I made a programme called The Ultra-Zionists that looked at the extreme end of the Israeli settler community in the West Bank.
“Going back to the West Bank, I wanted to see settler expansionism up close, and the human cost it entails.”
Louis Theroux: The Settlers will air on BBC Two.
NICOLA COUGHLAN will once again step out of her Bridgerton period costume as a second series of her Channel 4 comedy Big Mood has been confirmed.
The actress will return as Maggie, with Lydia West playing best friend Eddie.
Having gone no-contact following their spat at the end of series one, the pair meet at a wedding.
Eddie is there with her new pal, spiritual healer Whitney.
The season will follow Maggie, who suffers from bipolar disorder and was struggling with her mental heatlh, as she tries to find her way back into Eddie’s life.
Nicola said: “It’s been one of the greatest joys of my life making it, and I’m beyond delighted that we get to come back and tell the next chapter of Maggie and Eddie’s story."
CHANNEL 4’s new crime drama set in the Caribbean is a far cry from Death In Paradise.
Tamara Lawrance is a gun-wielding cop in Get Millie Black and she is hot on the trail of a missing person in her hometown of Kingston, Jamaica.
The show also features Skins star Joe Dempsie.
TWO Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps besties Will Mellor and Ralf Little are reuniting once again.
This time to appear live in front of their fans.
The duo, who recently teamed up again on-screen for U&Dave series Will And Ralf Should Know Better, are heading on a tour around the UK to record their podcast.
It means that Two Pints With Will And Ralf, which sees the pair take a trip down memory lane with a couple of beers, will this time feature a live studio audience.
Kicking off in Birmingham in November, the tour will visit venues across the UK, from Glasgow to London, Birmingham to Reading and Sheffield to York.
Ralf said: “We absolutely love going on tour, being on stage is such a buzz and with the crowd, we have a right laugh.
“November can’t come soon enough.”
