Bear Hunt’s Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen reveals special treatment from Netflix crew and admits what he smuggled into camp
Not all of his co-stars were as lucky, with Lottie Moss and Joe Thomas expressing their frustration at the strict rules
LAURENCE Llewelyn-Bowen has revealed he received special treatment from the Celebrity Bear Hunt crew while filming the Netflix show last year.
Interior designer Laurence, 59, admitted he managed to smuggle in an array of personal items while roughing it in the Costa Rican jungle – despite strict bans on home luxuries.
Speaking to The Sun at the show’s Leicester Square screening yesterday, Laurence cheekily boasted about not being parted with his own clothes, moisturiser, sunglasses, and even his signature fragrance.
He said: “I had quite a lot with me actually. I seem to be about the only one that smuggled everything in. I was like Mr Bridger in The Italian Job.
“I had most of my own clothes, I had my own moisturiser, my own sunglasses, I had my own fragrance.”
When asked how he managed to pull off the sneaky move, he simply quipped, “I don’t know. How do I get away with anything?”
Despite strict regulations on what contestants could bring, Laurence credited an inside source with helping him out.
The TV personality continued: “I think they probably did [check my bags].
“Well, no actually, I had a spy in the House of Love because Susie, the costume lady, said she couldn’t bear the idea of me wearing high street so I managed to get my own stuff in…
“Which is good because I think there are basic hygiene issues about wearing high street, I’m happy to say.
“And the high street is very pleased. I think if I wore high street, the high street would go.”
Not all of his co-stars were as lucky, with Inbetweeners actor Joe Thomas expressing his frustration at the strict rules.
He told us: “I’m just too much of a goody two shoes. ‘We’re not allowed.’ I would have [brought banned items in]. I mean, that would have been really nice.
“I think they were quite strict. We weren’t allowed much.”
Lottie Moss was equally surprised at Laurence’s revelation, admitting she had no idea smuggling was even an option.
She complained: “Oh my god, no! I didn’t know you could!
“They even told us that we couldn’t bring our own clothes in. So, I was like, ‘Fine, I won’t.’ And then I saw some of the others did, and I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’
“I could have brought so many cute outfits if I’d known.”
Celebrity Bear Hunt sees some of the UK’s biggest names fly to Costa Rica to take part in a slew of tough-challenges, all whilst hoping to evade the capture of explorer Bear Grylls.
The Sun was the first to reveal the full line-up last year, with Mel B, Boris Becker, Una Healy and Shirley Ballas competing – and Holly Willoughby presenting.
Netflix says about the show: “Holly Willoughby hosts this action-packed competition show that sees a group of unlikely celebrities dropped into the Central American jungle as prey for one of the world’s most fearsome predators – Bear Grylls.
“Bear believes there’s an action hero inside us all – even the celebs – but how strong is their will to survive?
“As Bear puts them through their paces, those who fail to impress will face the dreaded Bear Hunt.
“A brutal game of cat and mouse where they’ll be hunted down by Bear himself and, if captured, face elimination from the show.”
