Fighting back the tears, Samie told fans: "Mine was a 'grey area' so they couldn't tell - so they're not sure. They weren't sure if it is cancerous if it's not.
"So I have to have my half of my thyroid removed."
HAVING SURGERY
Samie underwent surgery in July 2023, so doctors could determine if the lump was cancerous or benign.
Updating fans after the operation, the TV star showed off a small bandage across her neck as she recovered in a hospital bed.
Next to picture, Samie wrote: "Surgery complete guys!
"I feel absolutely fine, no drainage was needed or anything. I'm very lucky.
"I'm now on rest duty but will be vlogging the recovery. Every day I receive soo many supportive messages from you guys.
"Me raising awareness has lead to some of you having this surgery and getting lumps in your necks checked. If I can help one person that's enough."
She ended the lengthy post with: "My neck is currently still healing and this first picture was taken today after I removed the bandage but I couldn’t be happier with how neat it is."
GETTING HER RESULTS
In August 2023, in a candid YouTube video.
She bravely showed her scar following her Hemithyroidectomy operation and said that the tumour in her neck was benign and not cancerous.
Sami told fans: "We have just got some really good news, my surgeon has just called me and said that the lump in my neck is not cancerous and it's just a benign tumour.
"So we have Prosecco to celebrate!"
Thyroid cancer facts
The thyroid gland is found at the base of your neck at the front, just behind the hollow where your collarbones meet.
It is a butterfly-shaped gland that makes and releases hormones that regulate your heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and weight.
It is made up of two lobes connected by a bridge of tissue.
Thyroid cancer doesn't usually present any signs or symptoms early in the disease.
It is usually found when patients are undergoing ultrasounds, CT scans or MRIs for an unrelated reason.
As the cancer grows it may cause;
- A lump that can be felt or is visible through the skin on your neck
- A change to your voice
- Difficulty swallowing
- A mysterious cough
- Pain in your neck and throat
Later on in the video, in a scene which saw her applying her make-up, Samie continued: "I just wanted to close off the vlog on the highest note ever.
"I was just so happy when my surgeon called me yesterday.
"It was a bit overwhelming I was in so much shock - bless him to call me directly as well, I just think that was so nice of him, he didn't have to do that.
"But yeah the worry is now over and the lump is out.
"Obviously it's benign which means there was nothing to worry about at the end of the day.
"But it's always good to get these things checked and taken out because you never know what it could be in the future.
"It's just a really big safety precaution.
