ITV has unveiled plans for a new high-stakes drama, Frauds.

This heist thriller will bring together two of British television’s most celebrated stars - Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who, Broadchurch) and Suranne Jones (Doctor Foster, Vigil).

The gripping six-part series plans to examine the complexities of female friendship, with a bit of deception and revenge thrown into the mix.

Frauds follows Sam (Whittaker) and Bert (Jones), two expert con artists who had their partnership torn apart when Bert was imprisoned for ten years.

While Sam has spent the past decade lying low in the hills of Southern Spain, Bert has been plotting her next big move from behind bars.

She hopes this final job will secure her legacy, but it will also test the limits of the pair's fractured bond.

Filming has already begun in Spain, with Frauds set to air on ITV and STV.

It will also be available to stream on ITVX and STV Player.

Executive producer and co-creator Suranne Jones expressed her excitement for the project, saying: “Working on Frauds with Anne-Marie and Monumental for the last two years has been a wild ride.

“We took the idea of toxic female friendship and turned it on its head to give the heist genre an emotional heartbeat.

“I have always wanted to work with Jodie, and now I am. I hope you love Bert and Sam and all they get up to as much as we do.”

Viewers will be introduced to Sam as she awaits Bert’s release from a maximum-security prison on compassionate grounds following a terminal cancer diagnosis.

But while Bert may be physically frail, her mind is still sharp enough to scheme up a risky endeavour.

With a multi-million-pound art heist in her sights, she attempts to pull Sam back into the world of crime they once ruled together.

As secrets unravel and trust is tested, audiences will begin to wonder: can Sam outmaneuver her old partner, or will the weight of their history drag them both down?

Helen Ziegler, ITV’s Senior Drama Commissioning Editor, teased the explosive dynamic at the heart of the show, saying: “At its core, Frauds is a story of a complex, surprising friendship. Can Sam and Bert come together for one last job, or will the past destroy them?

“Suranne and Jodie are two incredible actors, and it’ll be thrilling to see what they bring to these roles.”
