Oscars hopefuls revealed as Wicked gets TEN nominations and Wallace & Gromit get nod for first time in 15 years
BOX office smash Wicked has cast a spell on the Oscars with ten nominations — as Wallace & Gromit get a nod the first time in 15 years.
Pop singer Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda in the big screen adaptation of the stage musical, is up for Best Supporting Actress.
And British star Cynthia Erivo could scoop Best Actress for her role as Elphaba in the Wizard of Oz spin-off. Wicked is also in the running for Best Picture, Best Original Score and Best Visual Effects, among others.
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl — on BBC One on Christmas Day — is up for Best Animated Feature.
The plasticine pair won the award in 2006 and scooped the Animated Short Film category in both 1993 and 1995. They were last nominated in 2010.
Reacting to Wicked’s nomination, Ariana yesterday said: “Picking my head up in between sobs to say thank you so much to The Academy.”

Co-star Cynthia is competing against The Substance’s Demi Moore and Karla Sofia Gascon, for Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez — the most nominated film this year with 13 nods.
Karla is the first openly trans actor to be up for an Oscar and the film has received the most nominations ever for a movie not in the English language.
Period drama The Brutalist, starring Guy Pearce and Adrien Brody, landed ten nominations, including Supporting Actress for English star Felicity Jones.
Fellow Brit Ralph Fiennes is in the running for Best Actor for papal drama Conclave, which is up for eight awards — as is Bob Dylan’s biopic A Complete Unknown, whose star Timothée Chalamet will compete against Ralph.
Sir Elton John is nominated for Best Original Song for Never Too Late, from his documentary of the same name.
But there was disappointment for Irish star Paul Mescal as Gladiator II only got a nomination for its Costume Design.
The nod for Wallace & Gromit came after the BBC announced it attracted 21.6million viewers, beating Gavin & Stacey’s Christmas finale, which had 20.9million after catch-up figures were added.
The 97th Oscars will be held on March 2 in LA, despite recent wildfires.
