The mystery of Teeth’s identity

During their first performance on The Masked Singer 2025, Teeth lowered their voice while singing a rendition of Amarillo by Tony Christie.

This led judges and viewers to believe Teeth was a man – it was only Davina McCall who insisted that the famous face behind the mask was a woman.

However, after their second performance, singing Dua Lipa‘s Houdini on January 18, the contestant sang with their natural voice, which was higher and had a feminine quality.

More confusion reigned on January 25, when Teeth took to the stage again – and pitched low, causing the judges to think again that it may be a male.

The clues about Teeth’s identity

Teeth dropped several hints about their identity throughout the series.

The hints included:

  • “You can probably tell I’m a bit of a big mouth.”
  • “This time, I’m going for gold,” suggesting a possible sporting connection
  • “Wind me up and watch me go”
  • “Lads, lads, lads,” initially hinting at a possible male identity
  • “I think I know just how to tackle The Masked Singer,”
  • “I’m ready to dive teeth first into the competition,”
  • “Have you seen how good gold looks on teeth?”
  • 3 toothbrushes in a pot – yellow, green, red –  and some tooth “polish”
  • “I’m a bit of a live wire”
  • Calendar with date Thursday, April 3, 2025, saying “tea with the vicar 2.30”
  • Letter blocks spelling out – heigh
  • Our numbers have been chipped away
  • This is strictly business

Teeth’s riddle was: “I’ve been schooled in variety, I have lots in the mix, the way I perform knocks the audience for six”

Their clue song was the Neighbours theme.

This turned out to be a reference to where the Aussie soap is filmed – Mel-bourne – as well as Mel working with Madge actress Anne Charleston.

The toothbrushes and polish was a clue to her Polish and Lithuanian heritage.

Chipped away referred to her hosting Handmade: Britain’s Best Woodworker, and the sports references pointed to her presenting a show called The Games.

Mel also appeared on a Strictly Christmas special.

The judges’ guesses

Maya Jama, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, and Mo Gilligan were left stumped by Teeth’s identity.

Alan Carr, Rob Beckett, Rylan Clark, Jimmy Bullard and Alan Shearer were just some of the names suggested by the judges in the first episode.

However, Davina was convinced the singer was female and guessed it could be footballer-turned-presenter Alex Scott.

Guest judge Sir Mo Farah guessed that Teeth was boxer Nicola Adams.

After the character’s second performance of Houdini, Davina stuck with her initial guess of the former England footballer.

The other judges were dumbfounded that the singer was female, guessing England ace Jill Scott and Mutya Buena.

Teeth’s identity revealed

On January 25, 2025, Teeth’s identity was finally revealed.

Their identity was revealed after finishing in the bottom two alongside Bear.

After the judges guessed Fearne Cotton, Alex Scott, Rosie Ramsey, and Su Pollard

However, fans were left shocked when they realised that it was actually Mel Giedroyc in the costume.

Speaking after her elimination, Mel said: “I’ll take Su Pollard! It’s so nice to see you guys.

“I love these teeth so much!

“I was very pleased with Alex Scott.

“Such a fun show – it’s impossible not to have fun on this show!”

She also revealed that she was hoping to sing The Pointer Sister’s Automatic in the legendary Marlene Dietrich’s German accent.
