They were left out of work when the second series of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin was cancelled mid-production due to “the illness of a key cast member” — as exclusively revealed by The Sun yesterday.

Noel, 51, who plays highwayman Turpin, also co-writes the show and is an executive producer, so is likely to be sued.

The Mighty Boosh star failed to return following a Christmas break in production.

It is understood he left for France before the team learned the bombshell news and has not been seen in public since.

A question mark now lingers over his other TV projects, including Sky’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Channel 4’s The Great British Bake Off, which starts filming in April.

A TV insider said: “Axing a show halfway through production is virtually unheard of — plus there’s a mystery over just what has happened.

“It’s left bosses of other shows he is on feeling extremely nervous.

"Plus he’ll have to contend with any legal action. It will be a difficult few months for him.”
