A question mark now lingers over his other TV projects, including Sky’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Channel 4’s The Great British Bake Off, which starts filming in April.

A TV insider said: “Axing a show halfway through production is virtually unheard of — plus there’s a mystery over just what has happened.

“It’s left bosses of other shows he is on feeling extremely nervous.

"Plus he’ll have to contend with any legal action. It will be a difficult few months for him.”

Apple TV+ and Noel’s team were contacted for comment.
