ED Gamble could replace Claudia Winkleman on The Traitors if bosses implement a huge shakeup for its celebrity version.

The hit BBC programme returned to screens last week with 22 new contestants for series three.

Claudia, 52, has been at the forefront of the murders and eliminations so far, while comedian Ed hosts spin-off The Traitors Unlocked.

Ed gets to have the first sit down with each banished contestant as they learn who was responsible for their demise from the castle.

But the 38-year-old could replace Claudia on the main show - if she agreed to take part in the reality show's celebrity series.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Ed said he's up for the role, but admitted it's highly unlikely the Head and Shoulders star will swap roles.

He said: "Hey look I'm willing to take that job on.

"I'm not sure the British public would agree with that thought though..."

Funnyman Ed is such a fan of the show he'd like to be a contestant himself, but concedes it's unlikely he'll make it on the celeb version.

He explained: "I would have loved to have done it but I think I've ruled myself out of that by hosting Uncloaked but it means I've got, you know, a very good job, probably one of my absolute dream jobs hosting this show.

"But I don't think now I can play the game which is fine because I'd make an absolute fool of myself I'm sure."

The Sun was first to reveal how the BBC were working on a star-studded version of The Traitors.

In August last year Beeb boss of unscripted Kate Phillips confirmed the story and revealed filming would start this year.

Last month we told how Danny Dyer has been approached for the show, after the EastEnders star turned down offers from Strictly and I'm A Celebrity.

Other names linked to the show include Alan Carr, Stephen Fry, Tom Daley, Clare Balding, Daisy May Cooper and journalist Robert Peston.

The Traitors Uncloaked is available on BBC Sounds or the visual version can be watched on BBC iPlayer.

How does The Traitors work and who hosts it?

The Traitors first launched in the UK in 2022, after the Dutch format was acquired by the BBC.

Claudia Winkleman is the show's host, and has now hosted all three series to date.

How does it work?

It is a reality game show that involves 22 contestants, and some of them are chosen to be The Traitors.

The Traitors sees a group of contestants taking part in "the ultimate game of truth and deception".

The group of contestants are competing for the chance to walk away with a huge cash prize.

While navigating through a series of challenges, the team are also tasked with figuring out who the Traitors are in the group (usually three contestants).

Each night, the Traitors gather to "eliminate" one of the Faithful, removing them from the competition

Meanwhile, the traitors can be "banished" if they’re successfully outed as a traitor by a faithful.

The winners of the show are either the Traitor who remains undetected or the Faithfuls if they successfully eliminate all the Traitors.

The prize sees the winner could get £120K.
