Host Claudia Winkleman also reprised her role for the third series, as she welcomed 22 new strangers.

But Ivan Brett - who starred in the first series in 2022 - has called on Beeb bosses to make format changes to prevent it from going stale.

Taking to social media, the former contestant suggested a number of ideas, including allowing the stars 'guess' who will be murdered that night in a bid to win £3k from the overall prize pot.

He said: "Secret Room. When I was in the castle I obsessed over an army tag around the neck of a cheetah. I was so sure it was a code, especially because we'd quickly found the fake book leading to the armoury. Give the players a trail of escape-room-esque clues to unlock an advantage!"

While some contestant's choose to lie about their real identities, Ivan suggested littering the castle with clues as to their real jobs and backgrounds.

He continued: "Give one faithful the secret power to survive their first murder. Moreover, the Traitor who signs their name dies instead. Imagine the Traitors' paranoia about who to kill, and then breakfast the next day as the wrong person appears! Such drama."

Admitting that episode one of the new series was 'boring', Ivan said producers should give one faithful the chance to be banished first.

He explained: ";If they are, they may choose to become a Traitor and reappear at breakfast."

How does The Traitors work and who hosts it?

The Traitors first launched in the UK in 2022, after the Dutch format was acquired by the BBC.

Claudia Winkleman is the show's host, and has now hosted all three series to date.

How does it work?

It is a reality game show that involves 22 contestants, and some of them are chosen to be The Traitors.

The Traitors sees a group of contestants taking part in "the ultimate game of truth and deception".

The group of contestants are competing for the chance to walk away with a huge cash prize.

While navigating through a series of challenges, the team are also tasked with figuring out who the Traitors are in the group (usually three contestants).

Each night, the Traitors gather to "eliminate" one of the Faithful, removing them from the competition

Meanwhile, the traitors can be "banished"; if they’re successfully outed as a traitor by a faithful.

The winners of the show are either the Traitor who remains undetected or the Faithfuls if they successfully eliminate all the Traitors.

The prize sees the winner could get £120K.
