Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans baffled after discovering huge shakeup to soaps’ episodes that happened a month ago

The change left some viewers complaining about faults with the ITVX streaming service

SOAP fans have been left scratching their heads after learning about a major change to how Coronation Street and Emmerdale episodes are made available online.

In a move that flew under the radar for many, ITV began uploading full omnibus editions of both soaps to their official YouTube channel a month ago.

Fans have been left wondering why ITV didn’t use their dedicated streaming platform to provide this feature instead.

One person tweeted asking: "I’m sorry but when did Corrie (officially) start posting whole episodes on YouTube?"

Someone responded with a time frame, saying: "I thought this the other day, they’ve only been doing it about a month or so I think."

A second agreed, adding: "ITV have. Same with Emmerdale. Past 2 months or so. It's the omnibus."

One viewer questioned the decision, writing: "Weird how they don't do it on their own streaming service?"

Another agreed: "It’s a s**t idea. Who’d for pay for ITVX Premium or to advertise on ITV if they put their major shows on YouTube for free."

A third shared her problems with the ITVX website, saying: "I had to pay for premium because they sometimes just literally break the video lol."

However, she also pointed out: "Must make enough to offset the losses though, also the crowd they're chasing with YouTube probably wouldn't use ITVX to begin with."

This comes after Coronation Street fans have been left upset with the way Gail Platt's exit will be televised.

Actress Helen Worth confirmed she would be departing the show for good earlier this year with her final ever episode set to take centre stage on Christmas Day.

Coronation Street releases epic Platt family portrait ahead of explosive Christmas scenes with secrets and lies set to ruin Gail's wedding day

Originally, it had been announced that Gail's final episode would be kept off streaming platform ITVX in order for fans to all tune in to the linear TV broadcast that evening.

However, Corrie bosses have since completed a U-turn and decided to release Gail's final ever appearance early at 7am.

It means that there is a huge chance that her final exit will be ruined for many fans that are choosing to watch the episode as it goes out that evening.
