GAVIN and Stacey star Joanna Page has hinted that a spin-off programme could be in the works but admitted it could only be made under one condition.

The actress opened up to The Sun's TV Mag about the show's potential future after it was revealed that this year's Christmas special will bring the programme to a close for good.

Joanna teased that the show could continue beyond this year with a special spin-off focusing on 'Neil the baby' now he is all grown up and attending to school.

But Joanna admitted any potential spin-offs set in the show's universe would have to be written by James Corden and Ruth Jones.

The Stacey West actress told The Sun's TV Mag: "A spin off series would be fun, I think the curiosity would be very high.

"But only if it was to be written by Ruth and James."

Elsewhere, Ruth and James themselves have already hinted at another potential spin-off featuring their own characters Nessa and Smithy.

The pair confessed that they were desperate to write together once again and could not bare the thought of never collaborating on a project again.

Speaking on the Table Manners podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware, James said: "We don't know if we have another idea in us but I can honestly say that if we didn't attempt to try and even explore the idea of writing together then I'd be so disappointed."

Ruth went on to add: "I couldn't bear it. I love being in the room with James, it's so fun."

Elsewhere, the TV duo spoke about how important it was to portray a love story between character such as Smithy and Nessa.

James said: "On TV or films, you very rarely see people that look like Ruth and I fall in love.

"You just don’t. I’d be dropping off a TV to Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones and Ruth’s like working on a newsstand when someone buys a newspaper.

“What I like about the show is that it’s so messy and complicated and they just clearly have fantastic sex. I really enjoy that confidence.”
