Their gripes centred on The Chase contestant Maeve, who was battling it out against Chaser Darragh Ennis.

She arrived on-set in a brightly patterned blouse and her blonde hair styled with a flick at the bottom.

Maeve, who works as a vice principle, was asked a music question to which she replied: "Donna Summers."

Host Bradley, eager to be pedantic, stressed the answer was in fact: "Donna Summer."

Yet fans were less than impressed with the lack of wriggle room on the response to the cash builder question.

One took to X to put: "Yet again Walsh shows how corrupt he is
@ITV.

"Today he refused the answer Donna Summer because the contestant said Summers."

Another put: "Not giving her “Donna Summers” was stingy as f**k."

A third mused: "Oh let her have Donna Summer, just because she added an S at the end doesn’t make it wrong."

Bradley Walsh lands HUGE new pay deal to stay on The Chase amid fears popular star might quit show

One then added: "Oh go f**k yourself Brad.

"You can definitely give Donna Summers for that!"

American singer-songwriter Donna Summer, 63, is best-known for tracks including Hot Stuff and This Time I Know It's For Real.

PAY DAY

Their gripes came after a big money deal to keep Bradley on the series came to light.

It came amid fears the former Coronation Street actor might quit the weekday show.

The Chase's best moments

The Chase has been entertaining ITV viewers for years, here are some of the show's most memorable moments...

Bradley Walsh can't stop laughing

The Double Trouble special

  • To celebrate 15 years of The Chase on screens, ITV launched a special 'double trouble' episode where contestants faced off against not one but two of the show's beloved Chasers. And despite the odds, the contestants managed to go home with some cash!

The contestants with famous names

  • Eagle-eyed ITV fans are always quick to spot interesting and sometimes hidden details on the quiz show - but there have been a few times where the names of some contestants have been overtly obvious. For example, one 2017 episode of the quiz show saw Bradley welcome four contestants who were named after Friends characters Ross, Rachel, Phoebe and Joey. Another group of contestants with named from The Simpsons were also grouped together in another episode, much to viewers' amusement.

The Beast's anger gets the best of him

  • During an episode from the 2024 season, Mark Labbett let out his inner beast as he exploded in a fit of anger. Close to losing the competition in the Final Chase, Mark then made a silly mistake and incorrectly answered the question, “Rabbit was a 1980 hit for which Cockney duo?” “Oh, you idiot!” he yelled at himself while slamming the table in front of him. With seconds left on the clock, the Chaser then admitted defeat, moaning "I don't deserve to win."

The Sun exclusively told how Bradley has secured a pay rise after reportedly previously being on £3.5million.

Bradley, who fronts a string of other shows, is now ITV’s best-paid male after Ant and Dec.

A showbiz source said: “Bradley is one of the network’s most popular presenters and is hugely likeable.

"During negotiations for his contract to be renewed, bosses at ITV were concerned he might quit if he wasn’t happy with his package.

"There was a real concern he might walk away.”

Bradley has picked up several National Television Awards and TV Choice gongs since fronting The Chase in 2009.

His rapport with the expert Chasers is a key part of its success.
