Ant McPartlin admits he broke down in tears backstage at I’m A Celeb set – hours before going live on TV

It followed a campmate's heartbreaking family story

ANT McPartlin revealed he broke down in tears behind the scenes of I'm A Celebrity just hours before broadcasting live from the jungle last night.

Campmates, and viewers, sobbed as retired boxer Barry McGuigan recalled how his daughter Danika died from bowel cancer in 2019 aged just 33.

The emotional moment hit those working on the show hard too.

Host Ant McPartlin admitted he cried after hearing Barry's moving story.

Speaking on spin-off show Unpacked, dad-of-one Ant said: "That really got me. We watched it earlier in the day, before the show, and I was crying.

"I can't image losing a child and he didn't want to go there but he couldn't help it. I thought the campmates were really lovely with him."

Unpacked host Joel Dommett also found it difficult listening and grew emotional thinking of his own young family back home.

Barry spoke about his loss while sitting around the campfire with the rest of his co-stars.

Radio DJ Dean McCullough asked the boxer if he went to church, to which Barry replied: “I used to go to church a lot but after my daughter… you know, not so much.”

The former fighter then bravely spoke about the tragedy.
