Dalgliesh comeback date finally revealed as hit drama returns for third series after 18 months off-air
THE comeback date of Dalgliesh has finally been confirmed by Channel 5.
It has been 18 months since viewers last saw Bertie Carvel, 47, play his beloved character on-screen.
He is best known for his characters in huge shows such as The Crown, Doctor Foster and Agatha Christie’s The Pale Horse.
The Channel 5 series follows the published poet Adam Dalgliesh (Carvel) who has become a detective in the 1970s.
The Chief Inspector is tasked with looking into some tough and complex cases as he puts his abilities to good use.
Over two series, viewers saw him use his empathy and unique insight into the human psyche to investigate crimes and solve various mysteries.

Fans of the hit crime drama are sure to be left buzzing as the series makes a huge return in just a few weeks.
Dalgleish will return to the airwaves on Thursday, December 5 and will continue with a new instalment the next day at 9pm.
The hit thriller based on the novels by PD James and also airs across Acorn TV in the USA.
Three of his stories have been adapted for the forthcoming six-episode series which will be shown over two one-hour instalments.

The new season will start at the beginning of Margaret Thatcher’s tenure as Prime Minister in 1979.
Commander Dalgliesh will have to tackle three complex murder cases as he joins forces with friends in the force.
In the first mystery, he will make his way to a secluded seminary by a stormy lake with DS Daniel Tarrant (Alistair Brammer), where almost everyone at the location has a motive.
His second investigation sees him look into the significant governmental ties of the affluent Mehta family in Essex.
The character will then make his way down to the Kent coast for the third story where the threat of terrorists looms large over a vital nuclear facility.
In this, he is set to reunite with his former colleague Kate Miskin (Carlyss Peer) - who is promoted to DCI - as they pursue a serial killer.

- Lie With Me - Another soap legend jets off to Australia, this time its EastEnders alum Charlie Brooks who takes as a married woman trying to saving her marriage by moving halfway around the world after her husband had an affair. However it's far from plain sailing, as a young and attractive live-in nanny comes to work with the Fallmont family, and tensions soon build and eventually, someone ends up dead.
- The Drowning - Jill Halfpenny plays Jodie, a woman whose life is shattered following the disappearance of her beloved four-year-old son, Daniel. However, ten years later, the grieving mother thinks she's finally found her missing child, and embarks on a journey to discover the truth about him. But has she really just found the son she has been missing for so long?
At the time of the commissioning of the series, lead star Bertie gushed about returning to the role.
He explained: "I’m thrilled to return to Dalgliesh; this time behind, as well as in front of, the camera, directing a bold adaptation of PD James’ first ever Dalgliesh novel, Cover Her Face.
