David Bowie appeared in the 1986 film Labyrinth where he played Jareth, the Goblin King.

The plot of the movie, directed by the late Jim Henson, sees 13-year-old Sarah brashly wishes for her baby brother to be taken away by the goblins who are in the book she is reading called the Labyrinth.

The Goblin King comes out the books and fulfils this wish.

Realising this is a big mistake, she tries to get her brother back but in order to do this, Jareth gives her 13 hours to complete his labyrinth first.

'Remake' poster

In summer 2024, a Facebook post about a new remake of Labyrinth went viral.

The shared post was of a movie poster featuring Tom Hiddleston in Bowie's role of the Goblin King.

It also claimed the remake would be released in November 2024.

According to the post, actress Hailee Steinfeld would be playing the role of Sarah in the rebooted film.

The caption to the post read: "Get ready to embark on a mesmerizing journey through the Labyrinth with Tom Hiddleston as the enigmatic Jareth and Halee Steinfeld as the determined Sarah.

"This remake of the classic film features all-new music crafted by the iconic singer-songwriter, Jonathan Davis of Korn, weaving a spellbinding soundtrack that adds a modern twist to this beloved tale of magic and adventure.

"Join them as they navigate the twists and turns of the maze to save Sarah's baby brother from the clutches of the Goblin King. Coming to theaters in November 2024."

However, sadly, the poster was a fake, and was purely made as a joke.

It was created by YODA BBY ABY who have made other similarly fake movie posters.

The page's bio reads: "I'm just here to eat frogs, lift rocks and be satirical. The page is 100% satire and fake news."

The role of Sarah's baby brother, who she banishes to the goblins, was played by child star Toby Froud.

After switching careers, he is now a real-life goblin king, as he works making puppets of goblins, trolls and other mythical creatures.

Speaking about the possibility of second film, Toby previously told the : “There have always been ideas or wants even potentially from the late David Bowie at some point to do a musical or create Labyrinth in a different way, and Labyrinth 2 has been talked about under whispered tones, I think.”

Cult classic

The film was not appreciated at the time of release and actually underperformed, reportedly only bringing in $12.9 million at the US box office, when it was budgeted at $25 million.

Brian Henson (the director's son) also said at the time of filming, Bowie "so enthusiastically jumped on board this. He wrote all the songs himself, and they were great".
