MADCAP ex football star Paul ‘Gazza’ Gascoigne says he’s failed to become a contestant on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! five times - after the show’s psychiatrist repeatedly turned him down.

Gazza, 57, won 57 England caps, and played for clubs including Newcastle, Spurs, Lazio, and Rangers.

He was notorious for his crazy antics both on and off the field, sometimes fuelled by booze.

Using extremely colourful language when interviewed on stage for An Evening With Gascoigne in Worthing, West Sussex, on Thursday night, Gazza explained why he hasn’t gone on to the ITV series set in the Australian jungle.

He said: “Well unfortunately right, this is truth to God, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, the producers wanted me to go on.

“But you had to see a psychiatrist. If you pass the psychiatrist’s test, you’re in. I failed five f***ing times!

“And to be honest, the first time I went to see her I was on cocaine, so she must have f***ing knew.

“Second time I told her to f*** off. Third time never wanted to f***ing see her again so didn’t really go down too well.

“When I say I’d like to go in there…once it starts…f*** me I'm sh*t scared. I hate f***ing snakes cos I met f***ing plenty in my career!

“I suffer from claustrophobia badly. So I'm sometimes glad I give it a miss.”

Referring to his appearance on the series Scared Of The Dark in 2023, with celebs including Chris Eubank, Gazza said: “I did thingy in the dark - never do that again.

“Will I f***! Jesus Christ. F***ing Eubank, prick!”

During the sold out event attended by about 500 people, Gazza occasionally drank from a bottle which he explained only contained water.

ITV has been contacted for comment.

Gazza's spell on Italian I'm a Celeb!

FOOTBALL legend Paul Gascoigne was forced to quit Italy’s I’m A Celebrity after an eventful 38 days on a Caribbean island for the show.

The former Spurs and Newcastle star was injured as he took part in a trial to win a plate of spaghetti with meatballs and airlifted to hospital by helicopter.

The Rangers and Tottenham legend made a mark on Italy’s version of I’m A Celebrity called Isola de Famosi by stripping completely naked while sunbathing in 30C heat on the Caribbean island.

Breaking records, viewers were warned: “Now, for the first time ever, we have exclusive images of the first competitor to sunbathe naked. So if any children are still up, best send them to bed”.

The former Newcastle United star didn’t just reveal his naked body, but he also shared the stories behind his tattoos.

Talking about his body artwork, Gazza told his fellow castaway and social influencer Awed (real name Simone Paciello) that his penis tattoo “turns into a tree”.

Awed responded: “That’s the stupidest thing you’ve said to me”, to which Gazza admitted he had been drinking before the artwork was done.

Talking about the addictive nature of tattoos, Gazza said: “once you get one, you can’t stop”.

Being on an isolated island gave the castaways the chance to catch and cook their own food.

Despite boasting about how he was an expert in fishing, Gazza failed to catch any fish.

Host Ilary Blasi wasn’t impressed as he slammed the contestants as: “the worst in the 15-year history of the programme”, adding they were all “useless farts”.

Gazza didn’t get as involved in the trials as others due to his dislocated shoulder.

And his lack of productivity prompted teammates to moan about how “he just sits there and does nothing".

"The only thing he’s good for is knowing when the food is ready because that’s the only time he stands up.”

Reduced to tears, Gazza initially said how he was “hurt” by his friends moaning.

However, he soon sees the lighter side and said: “So you think two or three people moaning about me behind my back is going to hurt me? No, I’m just going to laugh.”
