One example is Freddie Slater - played by Bobby Brazier since 2022 - but made his first appearance as a baby in 2004.

Taking to Reddit, soap viewers slammed "shoehorning" the character into different plots.

One person wrote: "Is anyone else tired of Freddie being shoe-horned into everyone else's story?

"He was with Bianca for her hospital appointment.

"He was round for dinner with Tommy.

"He was sat talking with two 50 year olds having a conversation about Kat.

"Why are they putting Freddie into everyone else's business?

"It doesn't make sense and for me personally, it's tiresome.

Another fan responded: "Yep, I still have no idea how and why he became so pally with Bianca?!!"

While a third penned: "I liked him in his first stint, and particularly his friendship with Bobby, but ever since he came back, he just seems to hang around other characters rather than having a life/storyline of his own."

Freddie Slater caught kissing best friend's girlfriend in shock EastEnders scenes

Freddie initially believed his father to be Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick), his mother Little Mo's (Kacey Ainsworth) former husband.

However, he left heartbroken to learn his true origins - of his mum having been assaulted by her friend Graham Foster (Alex McSweeney).

Earlier this year, Freddie was involved in a storyline that saw his friendship with Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell) torn apart.

The duo became close friends upon Freddie's return to Walford two years ago, working together at the fish and chip shop.

While Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) was dating Bobby, she began developing feelings for Freddie - and vice versa.

They shared a kiss, but Bobby saw them and was especially paranoid given Freddie and Anna slept together previously.

Bobby ultimately left Albert Square, broke up with Anna and in his parting words, told Anna and Freddie that they deserved each other.

EastEnders continues on BBC One and iPlayer.
