A SHOCKING new suspect is revealed as the mystery surrounding Joel Deering's murder deepens in Coronation Street.

The police are still struggling to crack the case as to who murdered Joel Deering (Calum Lill) on the ITV soap.

Amid a series of flashbacks for what the residents of Weatherfield were really getting up to on the night of Joel's death - fingers have already been pointed in the direction of both Ronnie (Vinta Morgan) and Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown.)

But tonight's episode will reveal another piece of evidence as a dramatic flashback puts DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) in the frame.

While DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) has been heading up the murder investigation, Lisa has refused to step away from the investigation.

Corrie viewers will see Lisa examining some intense bruising on her body, before watching a flashback which shows her chasing someone through the precinct on the night of Joel’s death.

Is Lisa trying to cover her own tracks or was someone else responsible for killing Joel?

This comes after Carla Connor (Alison King) was thrown into the mix as a suspect.

Amid growing feelings towards Lisa, speculation begins to mount from those closest to her about just exactly where she was on the night that Joel met a grisly end.

In upcoming scenes, fans will see Betsy (Sydney Martin), Mason (Luca Toolan) and Ryan (Ryan Prescott) all question if both Lisa and Carla are telling the truth.

Next week, when Betsy walks into the bathroom and sees Lisa’s bruises she is not convinced about her excuse of doing it at a body combat class.

Later, the teen will find a bottle of painkillers dated September 28th.

When she tells Mason about his discovery, the pair are left stunned when he says Joel was killed on the 27th.

When Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) mentions Joel was in a fight on the night he was killed Betsy is left shaken as she begins to put two and two together and fear the worst.

Elsewhere, Ryan questions whether Carla has been honest about her own movements on the night in question.

Carla insists she nipped out to switch off the factory lights but is this really what she was up to?

It was revealed to be doctor Lindsey Butterfield who had been killing people at the hospital.

After being confronted, Lisa lies to Betsy, making out her bruises were the result of an office injury.

As truths begin to unravel, Carla admits to Bobby (Jack Carroll) that on the night of Joel’s murder, she nipped to the factory, but she told the police she was at home all evening with him and Ryan.

So will there be more than meets the eye regarding Carla and Lisa's recent connection?
