Death in Paradise star lands brand new project after quitting hit BBC drama

He appeared on the hit drama between 2017 and 2020

ONE of the stars of Death in Paradise has landed a brand new project after quitting the show.

Multiple stars have left the hit BBC drama series after 13 series on the airwaves.

A number of actors have taken on the role of the main Detective Inspector on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie.

These have included the likes of Ben Miller, Ralf Little, Kris Marshall, and fans look forward to watching Don Gilet in forthcoming episodes.

Ardal O'Hanlon, 59, starred as DI Jack Mooney in four series of Death In Paradise from 2017 to 2020.

Now, the comedic actor is set to star in his own new show called, Not Himself.

He will also take it on the road with aUK tour from September 2025.

The former drama star promises that it will be his "most personal show," as he takes his fans on a thought-provoking journey.

It all stemmed from an 'alarming' experience at the supermarket as he is set to examine his own identity as a man and a comedian.

Ardal has teased that he will explore his own ethnic and religious background, as well as some of the absurdity of the modern world.

Production bosses have teased that the show will be a testament to how humour can be healing.

He will complete his set with observations to improve lives as he has teased some unexpected twists.

Fans will first be able to get their hands on tickets online when pre-sale starts on 30 October.

General sale tickets will be available for more of his followers the next day.

Ardal started off as a stand-up comedian before he took part in Channel 4 series, Taskmaster in 2022.

In 1994 he was given the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year award and was the presenter of the BBC series The Stand Up Show.

Timeline of Death In Paradise Detectives

Death In Paradise started in 2011 and has welcomed four detectives so far to the island.

These are all of the actors who have played the lead detective in the hit BBC series so far:

Ben Miller as DI Richard Poole - Actor Ben played the first ever detective from seasons 1 to 2, and then returned as a guest star in the third and tenth series.

Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman. Next up My Family star took on the role for three years from series 3 to 6.

Ardal O’Hanlon as DI Jack Mooney. Father Ted star Ardal was a fan favourite and was the detective for three seasons from series 6 to 9.

as DI Neville Parker. The actor started in 2019 and is the longest-running star to have the detective role. He was on the show for four seasons from 9 to 13.

That same year he was spotted by comedy writer Graham Linehan who cast him as Father Dougal McGuire in Father Ted.

This role won him the Top TV Comedy Newcomer at the British Comedy Awards.
