Junior Bake Off first debuted in 2011 where it aired on the CBBC channel for five years.

After three years off air, the programme made a return on Channel 4 in 2019 and has since aired annually with the exception of 2020.

With nine editions of the kids version now under its belt, Channel 4 looks set to bring the show back once more but it won't be until the new year.

Sixteen talented kids will once again be battling off against one another in the iconic Bake Off tent.

Thousands of wannabe baking superstars have applied for the show but only a select few will make it through to the famous tent.

In a slight format change to its adult companion, the bakers compete in two heats of eight before the stand-out four from each move forward to the final of the contest.

Fronted by comedian Harry Hill, he has hosted the show since its revival on Channel 4 and for the past four series has been joined by pastry chef and author Ravneet Gill and former Bake Off contestant Liam Charles as judges.

When the show first debuted in 2011, Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry resumed their roles from the main show as judges before Paul stepped down and was replaced by Saturday Kitchen star James Martin.

Celebrity chef Aaron Craze originally hosted the show before kids TV hosts Sam and Mark took over the role ahead of its move to Channel 4.

The latest series was won by 12-year-old Tilly from Oxfordshire who triumphed above her fellow co-stars.

Junior Bake Off kids rush to help Tristan after his cake collapses

Meanwhile, the current series of parent show Bake Off has seen its fair share of drama thanks to stars storming out and one episode featuring a shock double collapse.

Earlier this month, fan-favourite contestant John emotionally broke down after his showstopper bake went terribly wrong during Bread Week.

Normally a confident baker, John looked visibly distressed as he attempted to make a bagel during Bread Week as his bake took a turn for the worse.

Making a drastic stand, John broke down in tears, left his workstation, and walked out of the tent.

Host Alison Hammond followed John to offer some comfort, trying to cheer him up by recalling her own experience on Strictly Come Dancing, where she thought she was going to be eliminated.

She said: "I remember thinking the same thing,” recounting how her dance partner Aljaž Škorjanec tried to reassure her by saying, "Don’t worry, the other person could fall over."
