Coronation Street fans ‘feel cheated’ over Joel Deering murder twist and demand justice
CORONATION Street fans have been left raging at soap scenes this week as they admit they “feel cheated” by Joel Deering’s death because he hasn’t gotten his “comeuppance.”
Joel’s (Callum Lill) reign of terror has finally come to an end, but viewers aren’t happy with the way it all went down.
Corrie viewers have watched as Joel has committed horrific acts of violence against young women, including Lauren Bolton (Caitlin Fitton).
This heartbreaking storyline has been going on for over 12 months, but as the police were finally closing in on the abuser, he died in a shocking turn of events.
However, soap fans feel robbed at having the long storyline ending in this way as they would have liked to see Joel’s victims get proper justice.
Taking to Reddit to voice their complaints, one viewer criticised the ITV soap for making a big mistake.

“Having Joel get killed was a big miss from Corrie imo, as has been pointed out it’s become a crutch for the writing team to kill the big villain off,” they fumed.
While another agreed: “It’s infuriating that the worst characters get off so easy and don’t get their comeuppance.
“I would have been absolutely fine with them somehow dying in prison after - e.g.: other inmates would have eaten Joel for breakfast. A solicitor and a paedo?! It would have been HM Christmas-Came-Early,” they added.
A third viewer noted that killing off villains is happening all too often on the soap.
“Between Joel, Phelan, Geoff, and Stephen, I mostly expect abuse storylines to end in death now … it says to me they’re too lazy to write a decent ending or they’re all rating stunts,” the viewer raged.
While a fourth viewer admitted: “I wanted him tortured for hours.”
Theorising why Corrie bosses chose to go this route with Joel’s storyline, a fifth viewer said: “It probably comes down to being too lazy to do a long, drawn out murder trial.”
They also suggested that because evil cult leader Rowan Cunliffe (Emryhs Cooper) is set to face trial for his crimes soon that it may be too much for the soap to run two court cases simultaneously.
“I am not surprised with the way they’ve chosen to take Joel’s storyline,, unfortunately, and despite Swain not being allowed to take the case, I’m sure she’s going to be ingratiated in it somehow again. I’m positive she saw Joel being killed,” the viewer added.
Joel’s body was found earlier this week and a post-mortem quickly revealed that it was two blows to the head that finished him off, meaning it’s become a murder investigation.
Darkest soap storylines
Over the years the likes of EastEnders, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock...
While the storyline turned into a big whodunit, Corrie fans think Ellie, one of Joel’s victims who Lauren convinced to come forward, is behind it.
Although Joel is dead, viewers can still expect to see the aftermath of his cruel abuse and manipulation as his victims struggle to move forward.
Plus, there will be the ongoing investigation and it may be awhile before the identity of Joel’s killer is revealed.
