He will join host Claudia Winkleman and other star participants at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands when filming begins early next year.

An insider said: “He’s always been a top target for reality show bookers, but his team knew he had the pick of the crop.

“The first series of the celebrity edition blows I’m A Celebrity and Strictly out the water, really, and Tom knows it will be hugely fun to film.

“He’ll make a great player too, as no one would suspect misdeeds from such a baby-faced lad.”

The Sun first revealed in January the Beeb had commissioned a celeb spin-off of its ratings hit.

TV host Stephen Fry, 67, has already signed up.

The second series of The Traitors attracted up to four million viewers a night, with more watching it on catch-up.

Tom retired from diving after bagging silver in the men’s synchronised 10m platform at this summer’s Paris Games.

It followed a two-year break after he fulfilled a lifetime goal of winning gold in the event in Tokyo in 2021.

He was persuaded to return to the pool when his son Robbie, now aged six, said he wanted to see his dad dive at an Olympic Games.

Tom, who first competed in the Olympics in 2008 aged 14, also won bronze medals in London 2012 and Tokyo 2021 in the 10m platform, and in the 10m synchro in Rio 2016.

The BBC said of his Traitors talks: “We do not comment on speculation.”
