Antiques Roadshow guest astounded by huge value of old case father used to stand on to paint the ceiling
The guest had no idea how much the trunk had an impressive history - and price tag
ANTIQUES Roadshow left one guest in shock after a trunk her dad used to paint the ceiling was revealed to be worth thousands.
On Sunday’s episode of the wholesome BBC favourite, the antiques dealers made their way to Thirlestane Castle in Scotland.
With locals flocking to the area to get their goods valued, one guest brought along a Louis Vuitton trunk.
While it was missing the LV logo, she brought it along to the event to see if it was legitimate or worth anything.
And she was stunned when she found out the truth.
Speaking to Antiques Roadshow expert Raj Bisram, the guest explained it had been sitting in her parents’ loft for years.
“I think [my father] used it to stand on while decorating and painting the ceiling,” she said.
“Nobody thought it was of any value, then someone opened the chest and looked inside [at the label] and thought ‘that sounds really familiar’”.
Raj explained that the famous luxury brand initially began as a trunk maker in Paris in 1884.
The now iconic intertwined LV logo was missing from the trunk, because it wasn’t created until 12 years after they launched in 1896.
However, as a legitimate piece from the early years of the brand, Raj gave her some happy news.
“In this condition, a chest like this is definitely worth somewhere between £1,500 and £2,000,” she said.
The woman was stunned to silence, but later decided not to part with the piece.
She explained it had “sentimental value” despite its hefty worth.
