Monty Don announces brand new project away from Gardeners’ World alongside Animal Park star
Monty Don and Kate Humble are helping to promote sustainable beekeeping in the world's poorest communities
GARDENERS’ World star Monty Don has announced a new project away from his usual hosting duties with a fellow TV celebrity – and it’s causing a bit of a buzz.
The 69-year-old is joining forces with Animal Park host Kate Humble for a special stage show marking National Honey Month.
Held each September, the event promotes beekeeping and the importance of bees in the natural world.
Kate and Monty took to Instagram to announce his latest venture, in collaboration with Bees For Development, to their combined 1.3 million followers.
She said of their joint appearance, which will take place at the Blake Theatre in Monmouth in January 2025: “Join me and the wonderful @themontydon as we dive into all things gardening and farming.
“We’ll be sharing our passion for sustainable practices and giving you insights into the incredible work of Bees for Development”.
The global charity works with some of the poorest communities around the world to provide a reliable and sustainable income for life, while helping the natural world.
Fans were swift to give the pair a thumbs up for their worthwhile session.
One wrote: “Bees need as much help as possible, well done Kate and Monty.”
Another said: “Can’t wait, booked in at the farm and tickets bought.”
Monty recently delighted fans with a behind-the-scenes look at the production of his beloved BBC show, Gardeners’ World.
Uploading a picture to his Instagram account, the image showed three members of his crew with an assortment of camera and lighting gear.
But even though Monty faced the camera, it was his cherished Golden Retriever who received all the attention from fans.
Ned had cheekily lain down in the centre of the garden path to ensure he was in frame.
Monty made light of the situation as he captioned the image: “Ned with his best friend.”
The rise and rise of Monty Don
SINCE bursting onto our TV screens in Gardeners' World in the early noughties, Monty Don has been a much-loved star.
Before finding fame on TV, and together with his wife Sarah, Monty set up a lucrative jewellery business in the early 80s.
Monty then joined the popular BBC show as presenter in 2003, taking over from the out going Alan Titchmarsh, and has been there ever since.
Every since he burst onto the scene, he has become a familiar face on the box.
Away from Gardeners’ World he is also known for Monty Don’s Italian Gardens, as well as the French, American and Japanese versions of the show.
Monty also hosted The Secret History of the British Garden
The presenter shared his heartbreak with fans at the end of last year following the passing of his pooch, Nell, three years after the death of Nigel, also both Golden Retrievers.
