Supernatural horror series Dead Boy Detectives was the latest series to be added to this list. The show was cancelled last week, having lasted just one season.

But fans are most angry about the cancellation of Fate: The Winx Saga.

The series premiered in 2021 and was swiftly renewed for a second series. It then returned to screens in 2022 but was brutally axed by the streamer shortly afterward.

Fate is a live-action adaptation of the Nickelodeon animated series Winx Club. But the series was aged up into a tense teen drama. It also had strong elements of romance, as well as themes of friendship and good versus evil.

It follows fairies Bloom, Aisha, Musa, Terra and Stella as they learn to control their magic at Alfea Boarding School.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Abigail Cowan led the series as Bloom alongside Precious Mustapha, Elisha Applebaum, Eliot Salt and Hannah van der Westhuysen, who portrayed her fairy friends.

Fate also featured an impressive supporting cast, which included Downton Abbey star Robert James-Collier as Saul Silva and House of the Dragon's Eve Best as Farah Dowling.

The series became an instant hit among Netflix subscribers, but it came to an abrupt conclusion at the end of series 2 when Bloom travels to the Realm of Darkness.

Fate was supposed to continue to explore this storyline in series 3.

“The goal is to answer what is the Realm of Darkness? How is Bloom and her mom connected to it? Also, how it connects to our big overall mythology, which we sprinkled in a little bit of in season 2,” Fate creator Brian Young teased.

Netflix viewers rage as streamer cancels Dead Boy Detectives after one season despite positive reviews

But before he could bring that to screens, Brian was forced to confirm the cancellation in a bittersweet Instagram post.

“Hi all! So this is not fun news to share, but Netflix have decided not to move forward with Season Three of Fate: The Winx Saga.

This is especially tough because | know how many of you loved this season. It’s a heartbreaking silver lining, but a silver lining all the same.

I’m so proud of everyone who worked on the show, and so happy we got to tell the stories we did. Our cast and crew put in a ton of hard work creating this world and these characters. I’m grateful for each and every one of them, and for all of you for watching.

Fans swiftly banded together to launch a petition to save the series which now, two years later, is still receiving support and is nearing 170,000 signatures.

Lauren Schnoor, the creator of , explained her reasoning to want the show to return for a third season. “It’s one of the best shows on Netflix and has some unfinished storylines.

“Everyone was looking forward to more seasons and was waiting for them to renew the show. Instead, they chose to cancel the show, leaving many fans furious and heartbroken.”

More recently, Fate: The Winx Saga fans have spoken about the show’s brutal axing on social media.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one Fate fan moaned: “Why does Netflix always have to cancel all of my favourite shows!?! Fate Winx Saga, Shadow and Bone, and now Dead Boy Detectives!”

“It shouldn’t have been cancelled!!! In your opinion, guys? Did it deserve to be renewed for a 3rd season? I’ll start: for me yes,” another fan fumed.

A third fan agreed: “The only magical thing you had was Fate The Winx Saga, but you cancelled it…we want our third season back.”

While a fourth viewer called out the streamer for cancelling the show when it was clearly popular.

“LMAO the way some higher up at Netflix said ‘we never cancelled a successful show’ yet I see Fate The Winx Saga come up on the suggestion screen and below it says ‘One of our most liked shows’ yet it was cancelled like wtf?!” they wrote.

Agreeing, a fifth viewer pointed out that very few original Netflix series have made it beyond one series lately, with Emily in Paris being a prime example.
