EMMERDALE fans have spotted a 'huge' clue proving newcomer John Sugden isn't an impostor.

Viewers of the ITV soap were baffled as he hid military dog tags bearing the name "Aidan Moore" and predicted an identity twist.

Some suggested John might actually be Aidan using a false identity, while others wondered if Aidan was tied to the Sugdens.

However, a new theory suggests that John has been truthful about who he is.

Fans pointed out John's introduction scenes at the funeral of his mother, Barbara.

Although the episode didn't show the service, John appeared to attend and be known by others in attendance.

This would imply that John was not lying and was in fact Barbara's son John Sugden.

The speculation comes as John continues to push away newfound half-sister Victoria (Isabel Hudgins).

He even remarked: "I'm not Harry's uncle or your brother, I'm just someone who is passing through."

In his short time in the village, John has already made enemies - with viewers demanding two characters be axed for destroying his home.

Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) stole John's camper van where he'd previously slept with Aaron.

The duo showed John how they’d left his van by a lake - and left the handbrake off so it rolled in, destroying it.

Victoria pointed out that they’d left him homeless, saying: “Well my half brother, because of you, now has no home and no way of getting work.

“He’s basically got nothing left. Are we still finding this funny?”

Aaron told her: “He needed teaching a lesson and it went wrong, the end.”

Fans were sick of the pair's antics and wanted them both gone.

One viewer wrote: “To think I used to like the Aaron & Mackenzie dynamic when Mac first arrived.

Aaron Dingle's biggest storylines

The character Aaron Dingle (formerly Livesy) made his Emmerdale debut all the way back in 2003. Current actor Danny Miller took on the role in 2008. Here are some of Aaron's biggest soap storylines over the years.

  • McFarlane family: After Aaron returns to the village in 2008, he is arrested by Ross Kirk (Samuel Anderson) for possession of drugs. His mother Chas' (Lucy Pargeter) family later learn he is a drug courier for the McFarlanes.
  • Coming to terms with his homosexuality: Initially, Aaron questioned and struggled to come to terms with his homosexuality. He ultimately confided in friend and guardian Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt).
  • Romantic advance towards Adam Barton: At one point, Aaron begins dating Holly Barton (Sophie Powles) and befriends her brother Adam (Adam Thomas). Aaron tries to kiss Adam after they are involved in a run-off road collision. Embarrassed, he tells Adam that he misunderstood the situation. Aaron sleeps with Holly, however, Adam informs his family that he thinks Aaron is gay. Aaron denies it but Holly ends the relationship.
  • Child sexual abuse: In 2015, it was revealed Aaron had been sexually abused by his father Gordon (Gary Mavers) when he was  from the age of 8 before Gordon kicked him out. Ultimately, Gordon was imprisoned years later - but took his own life while in prison.
  • Relationship with Jackson Walsh: Aaron and Jackson Walsh (Marc Silcock) started dating after a tumultuous start to knowing each other. Their story ultimately ended in heartbreak, as Jackson died by assisted suicide.
  • Suicide attempt: A harrowing storyline from 2010 saw a then-teenage Aaron attempt to take his own life.
  • Relationship with Robert Sugden: Aaron and long-standing character Robert Sugden were romantically linked following the latter's return in 2014. Nicknamed "Robron", the pair married in 2018, however, Robert exited the soap in 2019.

"Now they’ve made both of them so unlikeable that putting them back together just highlights how awful they both are #Emmerdale."

Another added: “Vile. Axe them both. Sick of them getting away with stuff like this.”

A third, however, appeared to side with the troublesome pair, penning: "Get rid of John. Awful character."
