THE Crown's creator has hinted at a huge royal spin-off for the beloved Netflix series.

The show officially came to an end last year after six series on air, ending with Princess Diana's tragic death.

But now The Crown could make a shock return to Netflix.

Its creator - Peter Morgan - has addressed his desire of originally having the show end with now King Charles and Queen Camilla's wedding.

Speaking to the , he explained: "For the time being, I cannot imagine any circumstances in which I’d want to go further into the present, as it were, but at the same time, I don’t think I’m done with the subject.

"I might find some way of coming into it from a different way. If you go back in time, you always have that wonderful opportunity for metaphor.

"You can find a story in the past and tell that, and it [will] actually be a story about the present, but in camouflage. And that, I think, might be a more elegant way forward.

"To move forward from where I left the show off at the moment feels too soon."

The Sun previously revealed how The Crown could return as a mini-series or a movie following the huge success of Netflix’s Prince Andrew film, Scoop.

It reminded execs how much of a draw the royals remain for viewers.

Any new instalments of The Crown are likely to be in bite-size helpings, starting with the reign of Edward VII — the only 20th Century king not to have featured in the series.

A TV insider said: “The consensus was that the royal drama seemed to wane the closer it came to modern day and retelling multiple stories that so many were familiar with.

“But Scoop showed that rather than doing this in a drawn-out, ten-part series, focussing instead on one mom­ent in time seemed to hook people.
