LONG before Jeremy Clarkson hosted Top Gear, the BBC One show had a completely different presenting line-up.

One person who hosted the show back in the day was Adrian Simpson. Here we take a look at what he is up to now.

Who is Adrian Simpson?

Born on April 24, 1971, Adrian Simpson is an English television presenter, who once hosted Top Gear.

After finding fame on the hit BBC One show, he was snapped up for other big TV shows.

Between 2007 and 2009, Adrian also presented Police Camera Action!, along with the ITV newsreader Alastair Stewart.

In 2013, he landed the job of being the co -presenter on the BBC's Fight Back Britain alongside Julia Bradbury.

The following year he joined the presenting team on the popular Channel 4 series, A Place in the Sun.

When did Adrian Simpson present Top Gear?

Before Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May were the hosts of Top Gear, the show was fronted by a whole different team.

One of those people who was part of the presenter line-up was Adrian.

Joining the show in 2000, he appeared in 35 episodes and would mainly concentrate on test driving the latest cars that manufacturers had to offer.

When he joined Top Gear in the early noughties, Adrian replaced Kate Humble, who departed at the end of Series 43.

According to Richard Porter's 2015 autobiography, Adrian was chosen over Richard Hammond - who would later go onto leave his own mark on the show.

Sticking with car programmes, in 2002 he joined Channel 5's Fifth Gear, alongside other former presenters of Top Gear, including Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson and Quentin Wilson.

What is Adrian Simpson doing now?

After leaving a Place In The Sun, Adrian swapped working abroad for being in the newsroom.

He now presents the overnight programme on Sky News.

Adrian also runs a speech writing business, All Speeches Great and Small.
