EUPHORIA star Hunter Schafer has opened up about the uncertain future of the hit U.S. drama and admitted it will “be tough” to go back.

Although a third season of Euphoria has been confirmed, it may not be that simple. “The real tea is that a lot has happened,” Hunter teased.

The popular show first premiered on in 2019. The second series was released at the beginning of 2022, and fans have been clamouring for more episodes ever since.

But this long wait has left the fate of Euphoria up in the air.

Although a third series is reportedly in the works, star Hunter, 25, who plays Jules Vaughn, is not convinced that it’ll really happen - or if she’ll return for it.

During her recent appearance on Alex Cooper’s podcast, Hunter admitted that she has “no f**king idea what’s going on” with series 3, saying: “You can ask literally all of the cast. The real tea is that a lot has happened.”

The cast and crew have been through turmoil behind the scenes following the tragic death of their co-star and friend Angus Cloud, who passed away last year aged 25.

Now, Hunter isn’t sure whether she - or the show - should move forward without him.

“I think everyone feels a certain sense of anticipation for if we are supposed to do season 3,” she explained.

Hunter continued: “Obviously I’m still coming to qualms about what’s happened and losing people that we really loved and were a part of this family and everything. If we do go back, that’s going to be tough.”

She added that returning for a third series could be a way to honour Angus, but she isn’t convinced.

“I think there’s a world in which we can channel that into making it a beautiful season 3 — if it is supposed to happen, but I think that s**t really threw everyone for a loop,” she said.

It was previously announced that production on the third series of Euphoria would begin in 2025. There’s also the added pressure of working around the busy schedule of the show’s rising stars when filming resumes.

However, no one has dropped out so far and the main cast is expected to return for series 3. Alongside Hunter, this includes Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Storm Ried, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, and Eric Dane.

Some of Hunter’s other co-stars have expressed their excitement about returning for a new season of Euphoria, which will be set five years after the last episode with the characters now out of high school.

Sydney, 26, who plays Cassie Howard, told that she’s excited to see what’s next for her character.

“We did have a long time between season one and season two, but especially now with the time jump, it’s a new process for me. [But] I’m kind of just learning as I go and being open for whatever’s to come.

“I’m also really excited. I love Cassie. She is always such a thrilling character to play, so I’m really looking forward to what’s gonna happen in her life,” she said.

However, it’s unclear if Euphoria will continue past series 3.

Speaking about plans for the future of the show Casey Bloys, chief content officer at HBO, told , “I will let [executive producer] Sam [Levinson] and Zendaya talk about [that].”

But he did tease: “I’m very excited about what they’ve got planned [for season 3]. So I will leave that to them. I will say, generally speaking, we trust where they want to take these characters. So we’ll let the creative team lead the way.”
