EASTENDERS fans were left raging after spotting an ‘awful’ problem with one resident’s outfit in last night’s episode.

Viewers thought Peter Beale’s (Thomas Law) fashion choices left a lot to be desired.

Since returning to Walford last year, Peter has reunited with his girlfriend and the mother of his child Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) and got stuck into working for the latest family business, the pie and mash shop Beales’ Els.

For most of his outings, Peter dons pretty unassuming outfits, like jeans and a t-shirt with a casual button-up shirt over the top.

But, during Tuesday night’s episode (6 August), Peter took things up a notch and strolled around the square wearing a noughties-style sleeveless hoodie.

As he talked to his mum, Cindy (Michelle Collins), about a new supplier for the food establishment, Peter showed off his latest fashion choice.

He paired the light grey hoodie with a short sleeve blue t-shirt and blue jeans, along with his signature silver chain which hung around his neck.

However, soaps fans were not impressed with the throwback fashion ensemble.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their frustration, one viewer questioned where the hoodie was dug up from.

“Where are they getting these awful 2000s sleeveless hoodies from for Peter to wear?” they wrote.

EastEnders fans have had a problem with Walford fashion lately

Peter’s sleeveless hoodie isn’t the only piece of clothing viewers have seen on screen that they’ve disapproved of.

Newcomer Teddy (Roland Manookian), who is the long-lost half-brother of Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick), has also been making some questionable fashion choices – at least according to fans.

A number of BBC viewers have shared their distaste for the character’s preppy jumper-over-the-shoulders look.

Writing on X, one fan remarked: “I’m going to need the EastEnders costume department to delete Teddy’s jumper draped around his shoulders ASAP.

“I can’t watch this unnatural fashion item placed around his neck for the next year.”

Most complained about soap storylines

Over the years, all three of the main soaps have featured plots that have had even die-hard fans reaching for their phones and laptops so they can get in touch with Ofcom and complain. Here are just some of the most scandalous...

  • EastEnders baby theft: 13,400 Ofcom complaints - Back in 2011, EastEnders was flooded with complaints when Ronnie Branning (RIP) swapped her baby for the dead son of Kat Moon. The storyline drew the most number of objections in the soap’s long history and saw it roundly criticised by campaigners - with 13,400 flying in over the course of the storyline. Some viewers called it “distressing” and “horrific” but Ofcom ruled the scenes were not "unduly disturbing”.
  • Emmerdale dog-napping: 550 Ofcom complaints - Back in 2016, Ross Barton and Charity Dingle came up with a plan to steal a dog and hold it ransom - but viewers didn’t like it one bit. The nation’s pet owners rose up, insisting the storyline would encourage copycats (not to mention copydogs). Complaints over two episodes totalled a staggering 550 and soap writers quickly learnt you don’t mess with animal-lovers.
  • Coronation Street double murder: 546 Ofcom complaints - Marginally less people complained about a gruesome double murder than objected to a dog-napping plot when Pat Phelan was at the centre of a spate of killings. First he forced Andy Carver to shoot dead Vinny Ashford - and then Pat killed Andy. All the bloodshed back in 2017 proved to be too much for some viewers, who lodged complaints in vast numbers about the “violent scenes”.

Meanwhile, another expressed their dismay, as they penned: “It’s been 30 seconds and I need the newbie to remove his jumper from around his shoulders.”

A third commented: “As much as I didn’t want more thuggish Mitchell’s running around the square, I quite like Teddy (for now), but that jumper scarf thing has got to go.”

While a fourth chimed in: “I wonder if sweater weather is like Junior with his suit and keeps his sweater on his shoulders while bathing and having sex.”
