Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Matthew wrote: "Turns out my bad neck is actually quite bad. Indebted to paramedics Steph and Miko for getting me to hospital and dealing with worst of pain.

"Doesn’t look like I’ll be moving house today"

Despite his condition, the former Wright Stuff host seemed to be trying to remain upbeat.

He later joked: "Two shots of morphine so far, one diazepam, 1000mg paracetemol and it’s not even 7am #BreakfastOfChampions"

The LBC radio host had been telling fans he had been suffering neck pain in the days leading up to the hospital visit, but had been determined to try and shrug it off.

On Saturday, Matthew wrote he was feeling ill but had been kept "merry" by a birthday bottle of whisky from his management company, before adding: "neck hurts from falling asleep like crumpled tissue b4 ENG/SWI...still moving house and trying not to panic....but also panicking."

Three days ago, he shared a photo of him pulling a face in an old moped helmet, and wrote: "Feel a middle aged mess today - neck hurts, nose blocked, ragged voice - but we smile on!! On air in <30"

However, the day before the big move he seemed to be in better spirits, reflecting on his time in the house and admitting he knew it was time for a fresh start.

"Packing all done, two days non stop but I’m ready to go! Thought I’d be more emotional after 23 years here but no which means it really is time to say goodbye and go the full Worzel after so many years dithering," he wrote.

"A new dawn for me tomorrow."

Alongside the message was a photo of him giving a thumbs up next to a stack of boxes.

Matthew had previously confirmed he will be trading in life in London for a new home in Devon.

As he shared news of hospital visit, fans were quick to flock to the comments to wish him a speedy recovery.

"Sorry to hear that news, Matthew. Hope treatment gets it all sorted without too much delay and you can crack on with the big move. The SW awaits you!" wrote one.

"Oh no! I hope they can get you sorted x," said another.

"I hope the pain settles down for you soon... I've had many a breakfast similar to that," noted a third.

The star later joked he had a 'breakfast of champions' as he was given a cocktail of meds
