A TOP Sky News broadcaster has revealed the terrifying moment they "nearly got run over" after covering an event building up to the UK's General Election in July.

Beth Rigby spoke candidly on her Electoral Dysfunction podcast about the incident in Grimsby, hours before fronting the live Sky News Leaders Debate with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, 44, and Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, 61.

Beth, 48 - who works as Sky News' political editor - told Dame Margaret Hodge and podcast co-host Ruth Davidson, a former leader of the Scottish Conservative Party, about the off-screen mishap hours before she presented live.

Speaking direct into the microphone, she explained the run-through of her hectic day last week.

Beth said: "The night before, I woke up at 5am, like fully awake and 'oh I'm doing this thing' and I can feel the adrenaline in my body, so I was like 'I'll go for a run.'

"And I stayed at this place and I went down this track and it was a little loop, and you go to the main road.

"It was a private road, like a farm track, and you run back.

"So I'm running along with pumping music on, can't hear a thing, and I was coming to the end of the road so I went to turn around.

"But as I turned I nearly ran into a moving car.

"So I nearly got run over."

As the co-panelists giggled Beth continued: "I was like 'oh' and he stopped and put his brakes on.

"I stopped and we both looked at each other and he looked really cross with me.

"As I would have been if I'd have been in a car because I was being a d**k runner which is running with headphones and turning and not looking.

"It's because I was on a dirt track."

In yet more calamity before the debate, which she hosted alongside Sarah-Jane Mee, Beth told how one of her fillings had come loose after she chomped on a bag of Haribo sweets.

CAMERA CHAOS

The incident came just days after Beth was inadvertently caught in a live TV blunder.

It came after the veteran broadcaster was headed to a commercial break.

At the time telly favourite Beth, dressed in a ruffled white top, looked around the studio for guidance as to where the team were filming.

Beth loudly barked: "Which camera am I on?" with no reply offered.

The TV presenter gestured with her hands as she continued to look bewildered as her guests looked on in silence.

She then muttered: "Okay," as the show ran on.

Beth has worked at Sky since 2016 and was appointed political editor three years later.
